Hello,
A few weeks ago my 1yr old GR ate his dinner and then seemed to get some sort of chronic hiccup/gasping for air. We took recorded it and took him to the vet. I showed them the video and she checked he had nothing stuck in his throat but had no idea what it was... So put him on a weeks worth of antibiotics and it stopped.
That was a few weeks ago now and all seems fine.
However, this week hes burped and then had a little bit of sick-But was just watery stuff... He's done this a couple of times now!
Any ideas?? I'm thinking maybe a slight sensitive stomach?! Extra acid?
Also - just to say he's perfectly fine in himself and nothing else out of the ordinary!
Hi Becky, I'm no expert at all but our dogs have all bought up some watery / slimy stuff from time to time. I think it may be as you suggest, i.e a bit of indigestion!
As long as he's happy, eating and not dry-retching I wouldn't worry about the odd episode. Obviously if it becomes more frequent or is coupled with runny poo then consult the vet again :)

watery slimey stuff is sometimes due to an empty stomach. A Bonio or similar will help.

I had the same problem with my dog, I found a teaspoon of honey worked wonders, she would refuse to take a biscuite, but honey was very acceptable to her, even if her stomach was feeling a bit off.
Ah great - i'll try that! Did she stop soon after that?

I'm wondering if your dog was reverse sneezing before you took him to the vet?
Have a look at this

I find my dogs will do this when eating dry kibble, sometimes. I think maybe the dryness irritates their throats. My cure was to change their food by adding a little liquid.
These days their food is completely different. I now feed soaked dried meat and biscuits mixed - nice and moist! And it doesn't happen after eating any more :-)
Re the sicky thing, one of mine gets this after a season for a few weeks. I give her a fistful of biscuits in the morning and it stops :-)

How often do you feed your dog? I found many years ago that my cocker would have coughed up phlegm or gastric bile early in the morning when only fed once per day, I split the kibble into 2 meals and it stopped, he was eating the meals slower too because he wasn't as hungry.
Golden syrup works to bring up the blood sugar quickly too.
He gets two feeds a day and is on markus Muhle which does appear to be pretty dry! I started to put a spoon of natural bio yoghurt in his meals and it seems to have stopped? Maybe the combination on moisture of good bacteria?
He's quite a sensitive soul so wonder if it goes to his belly.
Thanks for all the help!
