We are having to rent our house out and move in with my parents for financial reasons and had arranged for my sister in law to look after our gorgeous lab/husky cross. She has let us down and we desperately need someone to look after him for us. He is a wonderful dog with a fantastic temperament, he is fully house trained and great with kids. We really don't want to re home him permanently but will need someone to look after him for 12 months. It is a big ask but we will pay for all food and costs. He is fully insured. We are heartbroken that we are in this situation but it is out of our control. I have absolutely nobody to look after him. We are on the essex/east london border.

I am assuming that he came from a rescue, have you contacted them for help, they may be able to place him in a temporary foster home.

I think you are right Brainless, good rescue are like good breeders and will help out if one of their dogs in in trouble - the owner is happy to pay for expenses so I would have thought they would be able to help. There is also the Cinnamon Trust but they may only help when it is a case of ill health, I am not sure.

Now this is another thought for the OP to consider, from the dogs point of view it may be kinder to rehome, he will not forget you but being moved from home to home is not ideal for the dog any more than it is for you.

Any reason why your parents won't allow your dog to come with you? Is there anything which will help change their minds, say if both you and your partner work you arrange dog day care or dog walker so he's not in the house so much. Or set up a kennel outside for him to sleep if they have that concern.

There must be some way of working this? The problem with Husky's and crosses is that there are so many in rescues that to find a foster carer you might be struggling, same for Labs too.
No harm in asking their relevant breed club rescues to see if anyone is willing or they can point you elsewhere.

If the dog didn't come from a rescue centre are you in contact with his breeder? Even those who breed crosses aren't all bad and might be able to help you. Worth a thought.

Just be careful where you post this request as you have to think even if you pay for your dog you need to make sure a contract is drawn up and signed by all parties that your dog doesn't become their property as you hear of this type of situation and the foster caters refuse to hand the dog back. So please be careful and beware and make sure you do have a legal document drawn up and signed with anyone who takes him on
