day 5 of season ( season came early - was due to worm bitch next week ) what are your thoughts on worming / flea care during a season if youre planning on mating the bitch ?

I worm on day 1 of season and then daily from day 40 through to 2days post whelping

I usually worm everyone when the bitch comes in season before mating.
What with everything, the funeral, etc, didn't do it this time so will have to wait until day 40.

I always worm around time of mating and NEVER during pregnancy.

regular tablet wormer or panacur paste ?
What about flea treatment ? we usually advocate every month - she was only done a week ago so not overly worried

Never use flea treatment preventatively these days.

I Drontal before mating. Then Panacur 10% suspension from day 40 to 2 days post whelp. Have done this for donkeys years. No problems at all. I never use flea treatment. I have a spray in the house, but haven't seen a flea in years. Why flea treat unless there is a problem? Although the spray can safely be used on pregnant bitches, so feel that I have my safety net.
I just hate spot ons, but it's a personal choice.

I give a daily garlic oil 2mg capsule to keep fleas at bay and haven't seen any since I started this regime in 2004.
Day one of heat season if girl to be mated . No worming at all during pregnancy. No flea treatment either .

I'm confused you worn a dog daily from day 40?

yes Panacur 10% instructions for pregnant bitches is daily worming from day 40 to 2 days post whelping, there are dormant worms that are triggered by the pregnancy hormones,I also worm her each time the pups are done at 2,5 and 8 weeks.
Am currently using Panacur 10% on my bitch, did so last time aswell and have had no problems at all. However, I did take her to my vet recently as she was a bit loose when toileting, and my vet said not to worry about worming her daily, but to be more concerned with worming the pups once they were here... he's quite old school and has never given us poor advice in all the years we've used him. That said we have continued to use the Panacur 10% daily and will do until the pups are 2 days old. He was much more concerned we would be having our 2nd CHV, of which she'll be having shortly

What he probably doesn't remember or realise is that Panacur is designed to eliminate the awakened dormant larva Mum is passing onto the pups in the womb.
Panacur is supposed to eliminate 98% of this potential worm burden, which means worm free pups at birth and very low worm burden by the time they need worming at 3 weeks.

Usually worm with drontal when they come into season and then use panacur from day40 as others have said. This time however as I am traveling to Gemany for a mating I will worming just before set off for the mating for passport regulations.
