heres another -

a dog sits waiting in the cold autumn sun
too frightened to leave , too frightened to run
hes been here for days with nothing to do
but sit by the roadside waiting for you
he cant understand why you left him that day
he thought you were only stopping to play
he's sure you'll come back and thats why he stays
how long will he suffer ? howmany more days ?
his legs have grown weak , his throats parched and dry
hes sick now with hunger and falls with a sigh
he lays down his head and closes his eyes

i wish you could see how a waiting dog dies

Awwww thats so sad it reminds me of a story from Victorian times I read sometime when a dog sat at his masters grave and wouldn't leave and refused all food etc till he died himself..

The poem is rather sad- reminds me of a dog my Sister and I lost when we were kids:o An old lady that lived in the bungalow behind my Nan had a dog- her Son was a long distance lorry driver and found the dog at the side of the motorway-obviously dumped:( He took it home to his Mum- my Sister about 5 at the time and I went to the shop-taking the dog with us a walk- she held the dog while I went in for the *message*- we'd each been given 10p for going to the shop- she was so excited to get her sweets when I came out that she let go of the dog and it ran off:o We both went home in tears- scared to death we were going to end up in trouble wth the police and the fact that we'd made this dog homeless again:(
