My 12+ year old goldie has developed a droopy eye - sometimes her 3rd eyelid is showing too, mainly when she wakes it.  All in all she is relatively fit and well, obviously a little slower then she was but a bit worried in case this could be a stroke?

Could be Horners Syndrome, something that Goldens can 'suffer' from. This has just happened to my near 12 year old and I am going to have it checked out by my Vet. She had it about 5 years ago and it came good. Don't remember any treatment required.

Thanks Alison - I'll pop her to the vet later.

My old girl was diagnosed with this a few months ago after a previous vet gave me fucithalmic ointment which didn't work. It did resolve itself but has come back again. Looks horrible but the dog seems normal! She is in the kitchen most of the day along with another older dog and he was diagnosed with Bells Palsy. In this hot weather the ceiling fan has been on along with another fan to keep them cool and I'm wondering if its connected.

Vet believes it is Horners as nothing sinister behind the eye etc.  She had an anti-inflammatory jab and has antibiotic eye cream as a precaution.  If it gets worse or she shows other symptoms we'll go for further tests.  Just looks so awful.

I went yesterday and Skye has eye drops to try to bring the third eyelid down. However, it isn't so bad that she can't see out of the eye. It is believed to be Horners too.

hope he drops work for them both - have to say Ellie's doesn't look too good today, patience needed!

Well the drops were miraculous!. She has to have 2 drops 2-3 times a day and the third eyelid came right back down. The drops are called Neosynephrine Faure 5%. Obviously they are in France but there will be a generic one in UK.
