Hi all, My girl has 8x13 day old puppies.
All are doing fab, piling the weight on daily and are starting to get about with eyes been open for around 5 days now.
Bitch is doing great, eating well. A nice weight, drinking lots of water and has lots of milk!
The problem I have is that around 5-6 days ago she started with the runs, it was quite loose but more the consistency of cow pat lol, sorry!
She is needing to go around 7-8 times a day and does it in around 3-4 lots.
Up until they were a week old she had no problems at all, nice firm poos. She is eating Simpsons puppy salmon and potato and is on 4x 200grams per day.
I did wonder if I was feeding her too much but she has a good amount of milk, is eating it greedily and has maintained a good weight, if anything shes lost a little but only I would notice that by getting my hands on her.
Since, the day the babies were born I have been soaking her food in lactol for extra fluids as she wasnt keen on drinking. This has always been at the adult rate not the puppy rate. I wondered if it could be that but since she's had it for a week before the runs I wasnt sure. I cut this out around 5 days ago with no difference to her poos at all. So, now she is on dried simpsons only 4 times a day.
I didnt want to change her diet to something light as I was worried the change may make her worse. Could it be because she was making more milk?
Ive never experienced this before. She is well in herself just pooing lots!!!!
Gonna ring the vets this morning, luckily my vets do a sunday surgery! No doubt they will only offer me protexin, prokolin or something similar so wanted to know if anyone else had any other ideas?
Thanks

you can try steamed pumpkin/butternut squash to firm up the stools, I keep some in the freezer and a couple of desert spoon/icecube size amounts normally does the trick within hours.
the pups eyes were open very early, I was told by my mentors when my pups eyes were open at 12 days old it was because they were not getting enough feed and to start offering solids, there may appear to be plenty of milk but the quality isn't there, mine were still gaining weight but slower than previously
Thanks all, sorry that was meant to be 3 days ago not 5 that their eyes opened, sorry very tired, my couch isn't the most comfortable!!!!
Mine have always had their eyes open at around 9-10 days mark and by 2 weeks are up on their feet and starting to explore a little. These are going the same way.
I had just ordered 2 bags of puppy food from simpsons just before I wrote this post so am currently trying to get in touch with them to change my order to a bag of puppy and adult. Their website is down!!!!
Does anyone have a direct number so I can ring them and stop them sending out my order tomorrow?? They are very on the ball with deliveries so I need to get in touch quick!
Ive tried facebook and messaged them but I dont know if their inbox is monitored??
The lactol was stopped last week, so it isnt that.
Vet gave prokolin, will see if this helps but I have a feeling once this is stopped she will go back over again.
Anyone have simpsons number?
Thanks
Amy
Just to add aswell. As I work at Dogs Trust I see many litters brought in that have been weaned far too early or not weaned properly at all and they constantly suck each others 'bits'.
I have never had any of my own puppies do this. I have one boy here, who is doing it constantly. As Honey is spending time out of the box now, when she is having a break I let him have a suckle on her incase he is still hungry. He is not getting pushed out but Im wondering if maybe rodach is correct and either there isnt quite enough milk to satisfy them fully or the quality isn't great?
How would I tackle this? Bearing in mind I wouldnt like to change her diet too much incase I make her poos worse. Otherwise, what should I do about this puppy sucking his litter mates. Would you do anything if it were one of yours and what?
Thanks
