I took willow to be spayed yesterday and all went well. This morning she is wimpering quite a lot and I am assuming she is in pain. They didnt give me any painkillers as she d had an injection. Should I take her back to the vet or is this normal. Needless to say I feel pretty awful about it.

The injection should have lasted 24 hours so she could be covered. Some bitches do tend to show signs of being uncomfortable and will whinge and are normally ok but I would pop her back or give them a ring just to see what they say as the might give you some more pain killers to top her up for a couple of days. Poor girl !
Thanks Lucy. I will give them a ring.

Mine have always been given 3 days worth of metacam on top of the injection with advice to use once the injection had runout, if uncomfortable, or not if I didn't see the need.

It could also be the after affects from the anaesthetic which can last for a couple of days. One of my dogs howls pitifully after an anaesthetic and it diminishes as the GA wears off.

Also give her loads of homeopathic arnica it will help and wont matter if you give both what the vet prescribes as well

Mine too have always been given 3-5 days of metacam or similar after a spay. I would definitely phone your vet up and say you want some more painkillers to pick up for her. I think it's terrible you weren't given any to start with.

Our Vet gives them a 24 hour pain killer jab and usually 3/5 days worth of Rimadyls. Its a big operation so I'd have thought too that your Vet would have sent you home with some more pain meds.

I wasn't given any pain relief for my 2 girls after they were spayed but told if I felt they needed it to call in and they would have given me some. I found they were very quiet the following day but back to feeling well after that. I hope your girl is feeling better

I have always been given the painkilling injection and then a minimum of 3 days Rimadyl. There is no need for her to be uncomfortable if she is given pain relief.

Just had one of mine spayed...well stitches have just come out this week. I was also give Metacam to administer...your vet really should have given this to you for your bitch!!!
I phoned the vet first thing in the morning and they said I could give her metacam at lunchtime, which I did. She settled down then and yesterday _ 2 days post op_ it was all I could do to stop her going crackerdog at every opportunity. How soon can she go on normal length walks?

On lead walks until stitches out, to avoid any undue strain on them.
