Like the human cold KC is caused by very many different organisms. The one they vaccinate for is Bronciceptica one that is quite nasty.
The only times any of mine have had KC over the last 25 years (three times) it has been so mild in some cases most people might not notice it, as ti was just throat clearing when excited/first thing, and no treatment other than keeping dogs home was needed.
Interestingly I have never had all the dogs go down with it and if ones alive during last outbreak were still with us, they didn't get it again (so assume it must have been same version, to which they had become immune).
If the frequency mine have had it is anything to go by then vaccinating against something do rarely needed would seem unnecessary, especially as it only covers one disease causing agent..
