Topic Dog Boards / Showing / "the beaten dog rule will not apply" help
- By Carolcries Date 27.07.13 20:36 UTC
I know about the normal beaten dog etc but was reading a breed club champ show's schedule and saw "the beaten dog rule will not apply"

Just need some help in what this actually means. Can you withdraw from a second class if you win in the first and still go in for BOB?

Thanks :)

It usually applies to dogs entered in best stud, best bitch and that sort of class.

And no you cant withdraw from a breed class and then enter in a later one or the challenge.

In a word "No"

You must go into all your classes to challenge for BOB.  These are MP through to Open (dog or bitch)

However Breed clubs tend to have little 'add on' classes, such as Brace or team etc... in these cases The beaten dog rule will not apply..  Say you win your class (or classes) , then go in for brace and are placed 2nd or lower, you can still challenge for BOB

You will need to check your schedule to find which classes are exempt from the beaten dog rule

Ah, thanks Kay. Can't see anything saying what classes are exempt.

He's only entered in Puppy and Post Graduate, so I won't mind.

Have actually been to one fun show where the dog that won best in show had been beaten in the hound group but was still allowed to compete because the dog had won best sporting. The dog that won the hound group was reserve best in show. This may have been an oversight on the part of the judge/stewards, but nobody questioned it since the schedule said the beaten dog rule didn't apply.
