I just found a few spots of blood on the floor in the room where my boys are shut due to a girl in season. I checked them all over and found the older boy has some blood on his pen*s. It looks slightly watery and has obviously dripped. He is 13 and so far in reasonably good health. Of course it is Saturday and my usual vet is sending me to out of hours cover. He doesn't seem ill or bothered by it. Has anyone come across this before? is it an emergency or can it wait until Monday?

It could be bladder stones or a UTI, both of which need treating as soon as. I'd go; if it was your child bleeding from his pen*s, would you take him to the doctor or wait?
If a child had the same problem I would ring NHS direct and discuss whether I needed to take him to A&E or if it would wait until my GP was open on Monday. As there is no NHS direct for dogs, Champdogs is the next best thing.

He hasn't bred recently has he? I know of a dog which was bleeding from its pen*s following a tie and had to have his penis removed. Definitely woth seeing the vet today. To avoid out of hours charges you could look for a vet that opens on a Saturday in your area?, companion care open on weekends.

Have seen it a few times and it was always a UTI but agree we and you can only guess what the cause is, it is a matter for the vet to look intoand sooner rather than later.
In an elderly dog likely to be a prostate problem. As KaneFizz says above always worth remembering that Companion Care Vets in Pets at Home are open 365 days a year.

My dog bled from his pen*s when he had an implant superloin put in think it was just a spike in hormones ..called the company in Oz who made it they said this was the case went to the vets they didn't seem that bothered just gave him some AB to cover incase there was an infection ... could it be as the girls are in season
thanks all. Managed to get to see a local vet. Prostate OK. Bladder OK, nothing obvious causing it. He has not been mated recently and could not have got to the girl. have got 10 days of ABs and instructions to return if no improvement.
It was not really about whether to visit the vet, more that I needed some ideas and reassurance to help stop me panicking. I do worry about him a lot and more so now he is getting older.
