Hello friends, a few people have recommended Exelby labradors to me. Has anyone got a puppy from them? What are their puppies like? Someone also mentioned carlover labradors as well. If any body has their puppies would love any feed back in regards with the breeders. Thank you pretty people

Hi,

I have an Exelby Labrador.  He's the best dog ever :-) :-)  and remarkably was almost toilet trained when I brought him home, which I think is testament to how much time his breeder put in, and she is still always there to answer any silly/serious questions I have.  He is 4.5 now and an absolute joy to live with!

Good luck in your puppy search.

Clare

Yes a very good breeder you wouldn't go far wrong in getting in touch

Hi Clare, that is wonderful nice to hear positive feed back. Can't believe he was more less toilet trained. Was he quite boisterous when you bought him? Iv heard boys are more than girls. Only hard to decide which to get. Is a labrador suitable for first pet? With the amount of excercise they need? Sorry for all the questions but thank you for your reply.

That's nice to hear. Do you have one of her puppies? Sorry for the questions, just wanted to know more about breeders and labradors.

Don't get me wrong - if I'd left him for several hours, I'm sure he would have had accidents, but he was certainly in the routine of doing his business outside so it was very easy to carry that on.

He was boisterous yes, but I've had 5 Labradors now and they all have been boisterous! Training during the first couple of years makes all the difference and Melvin (my Exelby Lab) is so reliably steady now I can take him absolutely everywhere.  I've not noticed any difference in terms of boisterousness between boys and girls, but I have found my boys are more 'needy' and less independent than my girls, but that is only based on my experience of 5 Labs - I'm sure a breeder would be able to help you more.

As for exercise, until the age of 12 months, they shouldn't really have very much (the rule of thumb is 5 mins per month of age, daily).  As adults mine could walk all day, but are perfectly content with an hour or so.

Apart from hamsters, a Labrador was my first pet.  It was a steep learning curve, and I think it would be with any breed of dog, but I can't imagine having anything else now and I do think they make great pets for anyone with the time to put in training and anyone who is able to ensure they're not left for too long.

No but I am a friend of hers and know the total commitment she has to her dogs and the breed :-)

Grateful for the in depth answer. What would be the best way of traing? One to one or puppy class? If wanting an obedient dog or bitch?

I always prefer classes because your dog gets used to behaving with loads of exciting distractions around, but it really just depends on what's available in your area.

Hi Pam,

Exelby in my opinion are fantastic. Kay the breeder is on this forum. She is a wonderful lady and extremely helpful. I'm looking for a female pup. My friend is buying a little boy from Kay, as she has a choc and black litter available I think.. My friend is delighted! I don't think you could go wrong with one of their pups ;) sorry but iv not heard of carlover. Hope this helps
