Topic Dog Boards / Health / Update on my pup

Hi

Sorry it's taken me so long to write this post.

I don't know if you remember me but I was the person who bred the little pup who had a spinal abnormality and I kept her and worked towards getting a diagnosis.

I just wanted you all to know that she died on May 15th very suddenly, she was only poorly for 23 hours. She died at home in my arms. To be honest, we weren't expecting it so it came as a huge shock as my world had revolved around her. She was 19 weeks and 4 days when she died and I still miss her dreadfully.

I just wanted to say thank you for all your support on my posts during the time she as here, I really do appreciate it.

I am so sorry to hear this, it is so sad for a young dog/pup to die before life has really begun.
Know she is safe and well now, and hugs to you.

Oh what a shame. You tried so hard with her,I watched some (all) of your videos of her and she looked such a happy little girl. At least she did not suffer and you know that you did all you possibly could to give her a good life.

So sorry to hear you've lost your little one.     I followed and cheered her on from the sidelines, and she looked such a happy little girl in the later videos as she dashed around the garden.

You did all you could for her - no one could have done more.

Thinking of you xx

I too followed her story, and knew that, if the same had happened to me, I would have kept her too.  Good on you for loving her.  Sleep tight little one.

Oh dear, she looked like she was really managing so well. So sorry to hear that, but you gave her every chance and all the love a dog could ask for. x

Thanks everyone.

It will be 9 weeks on Weds since she died and even though I am coping better than I did initially, not a day goes past where I don't think of her. It was all very sudden, as I said above.

She started to be sick after her breakfast on the Tuesday morning, we visited the vets at lunchtime. She went downhill that evening but was still getting around ok. When the vet had seen her I demanded an X-ray to rule out a foreign body and there wasn't one to be seen however, there was something unusual in the imaging that the vet said was her spleen that had doubled on itself,  but that that wouldn't be causing her this issue and that it was a tummy bug. She had an antiemetic, but no antibiotics and was sent home with electrolytes. She had lost 1lb in weight overnight so was down to 5lbs - very small for 19+ weeks. I had chatted to the vet on call on the phone about 5 times through the course of the evening/night and he said that she, more than likely, had a natural blockage and that the 'thing' in the X-ray wasn't her spleen as it would be of a more triangle shape. He said if she started being sick again then that was a sure fire way of knowing as the antiemetic lasts 24 hours. He booked us in for an US at 9am the next morning. I kept phoning, even after she started being sick pink fluid at midnight (blood mixed with electrolyte) but I was assured that keeping her at home was best. I stayed awake with her until 5am in the morning then settled her down to sleep in between myself and OH as she was so tired. I woke at 6.25 to find her taking her last breaths. I still don't really know what happened in the end and I guess I never will. The vet kept assuring me that dogs can live for days with a blockage, he didn't seem to think her death was imminent and therefore neither did I.

Needless to say it was a huge shock. Personally, I don't feel she got the best care that lunchtime because the vet on call that evening could clearly see a blockage in her XRay. If it had been picked up when we were there, when other than being sick she was well in herself, I think the story, maybe not the outlook, may have been different. They think something perforated and she died of scepticemia.

Thanks for all your kind words. It has been devastating, never believed it would end the way it did :(

So sorry to hear about your little girl.  Like others, I have been following her progress over the weeks and thought she was going to make it.  Poor baby, she fought so hard.  Big hugs to you, must be heartbroken.

I too followed Winny on FB , it is as if I know your family now after reading of her progress and looking through the lovely photos you posted of her , I was devastated when I heard she had passed , I think I truly believed that Winny was a little miracle and was going to go on  and surprise us all , but then she really has been a little star when you think of what she has done , she has brought so much love to your family , brought you together with people from all over the world and her memory is now raising awareness and money for her charity which you have set up.

I am so sorry you lost her but her memory will live on , I won't forget her .

I'm so sorry to read this sad news. I along with so many others here, followed her progress in the beginning. It was only last week I wondered how she was doing. So very sorry for your loss. So sad.
