Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Paignton Show & Nearest Dog Friendly Beach

We're going to stay down at Paignton for a few days and would like to take the guys to the beach at least one of the days, can anyone tell me where the nearest dog friendly (and hopefully fairly quiet) beach is? Having very little luck using the internet...

Off of the top of my head, Dawlish Warren is the only one I can recommend. It is restricted at this time of year, but you can access about the first third of the beach. Easy to find and park. Dawlish is really lovely but I guess it depends if you want to frolic on the beach or go for a long walk! There is another beach you can walk to beyond the small fair ground from there which isn't sand and which runs near a railway line. So you could do both.

Two others I know of but have never been to nor do I know much about are Shelley beach in exmouth and Jacobs ladder beach in sidmouth. I think Shelley is dog access all year. Google those three and see what you think! All around 25 mins-ish away. Wrong bit of Devon for me but maybe someone here will know better :)

Edit: Just noticed you said fairly quiet- doubt Dawlish will be quiet :-/

As Tectona said, Shelly Beach at exmouth is dog friendly, it is dependant on tides as it is part of the estuary.  Jacobs Ladder at Sidmouth you have to walk under the cliffs for I think 100m and then dogs are allowed on the sand I think.  There was some discussion in the local newspaper this year about changes to dog restrictions in this area so I'd check.  Jacobs ladder can be busy but the further you walk the quieter it gets :-)

Just been told there is also Weston beach near sidmouth which is dog friendly.

From a friend who says Weston is the best one: "you can park in the hamlet of Weston and walk to the beach through wooded tracks, fields and cliff the walk back is steep but it's great for the dogs, there are no facilities so you would have to take food drink for yourself and dogs but it is worth it".

Then goes on to say there are sometimes nudists, and I won't repeat the rest of what he said, lol.
