Can someone explain when a judge gives a critique. Or should give one.

For instance, my puppy won the AV Puppy and AV Junior classes at an all-breed open show, so he got Best AV Toy Puppy. He will get a critique because the show will be featured in Dog World and they gave you a free photography session and

But I don't know if you normally do get a critique for this.

Thanks

Well lets put it this way, the judge should write a critique for any dog that wins a class but there are times when the AV classes are judged by a judge that is doing loads of other classes including the group so sometime the critique is not very helpful because it is so basic.

Thanks Nova. So if same judge does group/av that does classes and you win a class and group/av do you get a seperate critique or just one?

No if it is the same judge you only get one critique - not all judges make them very brief but many do when they have loads to write.

Thanks Jackie.

Just thought it would be good for newbies if people listed when a judge does a critique :)

Well, not all judges do write a critique although they are supposed to. And those who do it ranges from the (nice head, nice coat, good mover) type of thing through the majority of judges, who do not write reports for a living, doing their best to those who really do give helpful information.

Both papers say they will only publish if the critique arrives with them within four weeks from the show but they do sometimes then sit on them for what seems like weeks and weeks. Both papers are inclined to edit rather heavily (one more than the other) when it comes to reports from open shows.

So good luck with your wait and just keep a look out for the report to appear both papers have an index of the shows and breeds that have critiques in that edition.
