I have 10 week weimaraner x gsp she has weimaraner colour eyes, will the stay like this or turn amber? My last weim had exactly the same eye colour as her and I'm hoping they will stay as they are as look very beautiful :)

Going to be difficult to predict as she is a cross.... even harder to comment as you've not said what colour she is :)

She's a very rich chocolate colour

Sounds to me like she has taken after the GSP side & I suspect she will not have the blue of the Weim eyes.

If the eyes aren't brown at 10 weeks I suspect they won't ever be.

I hoping they don't change as look lovely with her dark coat, when I collected her some of her litter mates still had the very blue weim puppy colour eyes & some had already changed to what hers are. I have no experience with gsp's so don't know if theirs start off blue/grey too?

I know that light eyes are considered undesirable in GSPs and the few GSP puppies I've seen coming for their first jabs have had dark eyes.

Thank you for your advice, so hers are probably going to stay as they are :)

they can change up to about 18months of age, I have a blue & white collie who unlike his littermates had grey eyes (others had brown eyes from 8 weeks, although one does have a blue eye) I was hoping (as they matched his coat) that they would stay grey and when he reached 12 months of age, but at 16months they started to change and now at 18months they're nearly all brown... still lovely but I had hoped....

I also had a blue eyed blue merle collie whose eyes changed at about 12 months to a brown....

I believe (someone will correct me if I'm wrong) that all pups start off with blue eyes, which change colour as the eyes develop

The colour genetics between Weimaraners and GSP will result in solid brown in pups. Eye colour in GSP changes with age, the dilution factor on the gene to give liver affects the eye colour so eye colour in Liver GSP can be from pale yellow to mid brown. The standard sakes for dark eye but light eyes can occur. In the GSP eye colour gradually darkens progressively and eye colour may not be finished until 3-4 years old.

Eye colour in Weimaraner is pale due to similar dilution effects as occurs in the GSP to lesser degrees. As a result  you pup MAY have pale eyes as inherited this trait from both parents however  if the GSP parent had dark eyes this MAY result in progressively darkening eyes in your pup as I "think " tendency to dark eyes is dominant over pale eyes.

Thank you for that :) her dad had pretty light eyes but not very, her mum had blue/grey the same as her, so guess its wait and see
