I also have a linkabord, 3 high but to my own design :-)
Don't see why the paddling pool wouldn't work, however, depends on height of pool and size of your breed. Wouldn't want Mum to be knocking her teats climbing in and out over the first few days. However, what I would say is that sometimes a girly needs to push, and to do that she needs a solid side to push against. That's where I like wooden whelping boxes, there's no give. There is in the plastic type, and obviously there would be with this pool. You might get away with it placing it into a corner. The other thing is how strong would the base be for digging. Your bitch might dig right through it - you could place some lino in the bottom though.
I don't use rails with my girls when whelping, never felt the need to, but that seems to be a breed thing.
I'm now off to have a better look ... wonder if it's really going to be robust enough as a paddling pool for my doggies ;-)

Steel City here too, had it made to fit inside my Croft Freedom Pen.had a link-a-bord one was it was too much messing about putting it together and heavy.....just my personal opinion. :)
'Solid sides to push'... lol, I wish!
I've never managed to get one of my girls to actually whelp in their box! The coat room and the downstairs bathroom tie for prime position! My girl is 56 days today and has already staked claim to the bathroom, digging in the corner whenever I go in for a pee!! Hard floors in both so I just cover it with towels, sit on the lid of the loo with my coffee on the windowsill and wait for each one to appear...this one gives birth standing up so I have to catch each one, she had 8 within two and a half hours last time and rested for an hour in the middle, they were popping out like bullets :/
Friend in Oz uses her big walk in shower area for whelping ;-)
Wow what a clever idea, mega easy to clean and sterilise!! Hey one of those walk in baths would be good too with some rubber backed vet bed in!! :)

I am considering a baby pool .. Know a few folks who use them and recommend them. Only breed VERY occasionally so have used disposable cardboard boxes in past
