I'm really quite concerned about how many young dogs and even puppies are being neutered and spayed, does anyone know if there are any leaflets or info that can be downloaded so I can give it to my new puppy owners.

thanks Barbara

As I write  I am infuriated by an email ( unsolicited) from Eukanuaba. It is full of 'helpful' advice concerning the need to neuter puppy at a young age -so angry I only skimmed it but I believe they recommend 6 months.

I spend a lot of time educating new owners re.keeping puppy  entire/as nature intended . I explain in considerable detail the working of the endocrine and genitourinary system etc .Nevertheless... along comes Eukanuba with their indoctrination programme, amply supported by 'veterinary experts' to undermine the wisdom that a healthy dog does not need neutering.

Too cross to say more !

Yep, this is what I was saying the other week when we were discussing puppy packs -that if getting a free puppy packs means the manufacturers contacting my puppy byers to tell them it is okay to neuter their pup at an early age, then it most certainly is not worth it. It was in fact Eukanuba I was referring to -I bought a pup last summer who got one of their packs and I am still getting their e-mails. (Personalised e-mails, giving my dog's KC registered name.)

I tried to reply to the email intending to let them know exactly what I thought of their advice but of course it's no-reply email. I'll be contacting them today.

I've just phoned Eukanuba and spoken to head of customer relations. I have asked them to review their policy on (mis)information to new puppy owners. I talked to her about the serious health problems associated with early neutering and explained that no way would responsible breeders be recommending their products if they continue to give out such advice. I suggested they speak to their' veterinary advisors' and challenge them on the points I raised.

Nuff said. Perhaps they'll listen if they think they'll be losing money.
