Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Open show question
- By fushang [gb] Date 24.06.13 11:58 UTC
Hi all,
In a breed class at a general open show, can the judge ask for the 2nd in open class to come out to compete for RBOB ?
I have only seen this once along time ago.
Thanks
Anne

Only if the BoB was the Open class winner, and only at the judge's discretion.

Ok. Yes the Open was the class winner, I was curious to know this as the 2nd in open was a nice dog and the RBOB from PG really was not, imo..lol
Thank you

We all see dogs a bit differently which is perhaps a good job or the results would always be the same and there would be no need to have shows after the first of the year.  Would think that there was something the judge did not like about the dog that was second in open, perhaps it mumbled, or had bad or missing teeth, who knows we have all stood at the ring side mouth open at a decision but I expect the spectators feel the same about my decisions but have to admit I don't give them a thought.

Yes, judges decision as said. I've seen it happen a few times at open shows, more often at Champ shows.

I do understand dogs can look very different on the inside of the ring than the outside, to be fair, the 2nd dog like my girl who was 3rd did not move well - our breed do not do grass which is prickly. It was the judge and the reserve thingy i get confused with at times. Sometimes this happens at champ shows in my breed and it causes a bit of a stir. I understand its a different rule at club shows though and the dog does have to be called back in ?

Not too sure what you mean but the rules are not, as far as I know, different in breed shows - the judge if they wish can call in a dog that has only been beaten by the CC winner or the Best of Sex winner but they do not have to if they prefer one of the class winners.
