Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Worming pregnant bitch?
- By tiegold [gb] Date 22.06.13 12:24 UTC
I've got a bitch here that was confirmed in whelp last week by scan. She should be 5 weeks on monday so obviously looking at worming her soon if I stick to what I usually do.

I've always done as my mentor has done which is worm my girl before mating, then use panacur 10% from day 45 to 2 days post whelp, then each time the puppies are wormed I have always wormed mum.

Recently I've read conflicting advice on worming and wondered what everyone else does?

I've never had problems using panacur but would admit that it would be much easier giving a one of dose of drontal puppy every 2 weeks than having to worm each puppy over 3 days with panacur, however, which ever is best will be done.

Anyone else do it differently and what do you use?
Thanks

I always use the Panacur for the bitch in whelp, and so the pups with it too (it's easier to use the one product for me), but it's up to you what you use for the pups.

Personally I don't worm the Mum each time as I do the pups, but do her when they have their worming before they leave.

My bitches still clean up after their pups until about 5 weeks and will be ingesting the wormer they pass.  I know there is a wide margin of safety, but it's what I prefer to do.

All the other dogs are wormed when the pups have all left home, including Mum (as long as it's a few weeks since her last dose.

Same here, I have always used Panacur as directed for pregnancy...... interestingly when I did have a puppy with intussusception twice ( 6 weeks and13 weeks) who was operated on twice, the vet did make comment that at least she could say he didnt have worms either time..as she could see !

Ok thanks will stick with what I know then and get the panacur ordered :-)
Thanks again

I always worm with Panacur 10% from day 40 and then pups at 2,5 and 7 weeks mum included.

Other dogs get wormed along with mum when pups have left at around 9 weeks.
