I have a 15 month old dobermann who is very dull to say the least. The latest
thing to worry me is he seems to be going bold just above his tail, under his paws and on his chest! I have tried all ranges of flea powder, i have even tried natural shampoo (not being over excessive) and his diet. Could it be some kind of twitch, i have noticed recently that he overgrooms himself and sometimes plucks at his fur
he has an appointment at the vets next week but would appreciate any help or suggestions as i have a negative view of vets and there pushy expensive ways.

One of the most common problems with dull shedding hair in a Dobermann (apart from moulting) is an under-active thyroid gland and this can only be confirmed with blood tests. If you are offered the choice go straight for the full (more expensive) test.

Did you get the flea treatments and shampoos from your vet? If you have not visited him at all yet then you are probably not doing your companion any favours. If you don't like your vet than find another one but remember that they generally have the health and wellbeing of their client (your pet) in their minds before they start to think of emptying your pockets.

If by dull you mean in his behaviour, coupled weith these bald patches I would ber thinking of having him checked for an underactive thyroid.

If it is this he will need medication for the rest of his life, but other than monitoring him, should be able to lead a fully active normal life.

my neighbour had 2 with this condition, one died at 12 1/2 last summer, and the other is still going at nearly 13!
