Im interested in a litter but only mum has been dna eye tested mum is bva tested,the breeder is dna testing the pups( there are only 3) because she wants to keep a male as a possible future sire.just a curious question really but at what age wopuld this be done,surely they are  a bit young to get a blood test at just a week old,my wife and i were havi ng this discussion at the weekend.

Well suppose it depends on what tests are being done but a mouth swab is usually enough for most DNA tests.

For mouth swabs they need to be weaned.  Blood can be taken any time the vet feels they can do it and get a decent enough sample, wouldn't think they could do it at a week old..

I did some of mine at 6 weeks and it was not easy by bloods.  I do not trust the results of swabs.

If the parents are DNA tested then that should do away with need to test the puppies. Parents should be tested before breeding.

That depends on the results of the parents' DNA tests. Only if they're both 'clear' would the offspring not need testing.
