Topic Dog Boards / General / Male wanting to mate spayed bitch
- By Henri3402 [gb] Date 30.05.13 07:08 UTC
7 year old male is pestering a 10 year old girl who was spayed years ago, he's acting as a male would on day 10, 12 etc of season. Sniffing and licking the vulva, drooling, drooling and licking her ears as well as mounting her.  As you can imagine the old girl is getting a bit fed up.

Asking for an acquaintance who doesn't have internet. She's an older lady with lots of experience with dogs, we've had dogs for over 40 years and are stumped.  Any ideas would be helpful for me to pass on.

First thing is to get the bitch checked out by a vet the likely cause being a UTI or anal glands.

Not anal glands, she's recently finished antibiotics so we both ruled urinary tract infection out, if it persists for any longer she'll pop to her Vet. Thanks for your reply.

Could there be a bitch near by that IS in season? My boy used to try it on with my cat and my old spayed girl when one of my girls were in season, he knew it wasn't them really but they were the only animals he had access too so tried anyway ;-)

She lives in a very remote area, no neighbours for miles. She's going to the Vet so hopefully will soon be sorted.  Thanks.

What a coincidence that both yourself and Suejaw are having similar problems with dogs around the same age, not adolescents who know no better.

Both of you also ruling out anal and infections, (so far) until that vet visit, just throwing something out there and not sure where Suejaw lives, but if in the country too....... is it possible that a new type of insecticide is being used which is confusing a dogs scent? Now as I also live in the country, if on their visits to me my mum's or brother's males also begin with this behaviour we shall have more than a coincidence. :-D

I hope that both cases are soon sorted out.

I live in a village bordering fields and we walk in them, recently wheat was planted and this is growing on, have no idea about insectacides which might of been used.
We also walk in my fathers farm land and nothing has been used there..

I hope by taking mine back to the vets tomorrow we'll have a better idea, maybe it does need ab's but a different kind? Some work some don't for different things.
I tried my girls glands again last night in case they were impacted in the short time they were last checked and not.
I know both of mine have gone mad for the fresh grass and eating this, but not abnormal with new fresh grass in spring..

It is bizarre as been following this one in case something triggers for my situation which appears to be the same, except mine are both entire.

Other thing I thought of for mine was a totally silent season, but very odd only 11 weeks now after the last season finished...

It sure is a mystery, let's hope the vets can come up with something as we all seem to be stumped too. :-)
