Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Which Show

Hi everyone
Like many others on this board, I am toying with the idea of showing my lab. I have learnt an awful lot about how to get started by reading through the various threads, and so have decided to bite the bullet and visit a dog show as a spectator. I looked on 'dogshows' and found 2 shows for the same day (Feb 16th). I was wondering if anybody 'in the know' could give me some advice on which would be the most beneficial to me, in terms of learning more about the show environment. The first is the 'northwich and district canine society' which would be ideal for me in terms of travelling as I live in the area!!!Therefore I would not have to worry about getting anyone to look after the dog, as we would only be a mile away from home and they have got a labrador class. The second, however, is the North West Labrador Retriever Club show which, while being a lot further away, would surely be the best place to gain more breed-specific information? As I am completely cold to any kind of show, I would really appreciate some advice - which show would be more worth my while?
Thanks in advance
Zoe

I would go to the all breed show, bearing in mind that Labradors are a popular breed, and you will have a chance to attend breed shows later.

Unless you know someone at the breed show it can be a bit intimidating attending one of these where everyone knows everyone. At an a; breed open show people won't all know each other and striking up a conversation may be easier.

Of course if you are not shy of making your pesence known to the officails at the breed show you may find yourself made most welcome, and taken under the wing so to speak.

You cqn be more incognito at the all breed show. The choice as they say is yours.

I would go for the local one, as it is so near, though with a breed show on the same day don't expect many good Labs in attendance.

Thank you for your reply, Brainless. its nice to hear an informed opinion. I was also wondering if anyone could give me hints as to what questions would be useful to ask when to talking to exhibitors. (I have got a few in mind, but would still appreciate other's opinions, as I have probably not thought of loads!)
