Hi my girl gave birth to a single puppy ten days ago everything went well and my girl and her puppy are doing great, my question is that she had No sign of any discharge at all after the pup was born now ten days later I have noticed she has a discharge almost whitish and slightly watery with brownish streaks through it, she seems fine in herself is looking after the puppy and nursing etc perfectly has No sign of obvious illness and No odour from the discharge I was thinking of giving the vet a call in the morning but thought maybe someone on here can tell me if this seems abnormal or if I should give them a call tonight.

My bitches have discharge from the day they whelp.  Many for quite some weeks.  I find this perfectly normal.

I would not worry either....so long as she is bright, good appetite,no temp or smell all sounds normal.

I have a litter 11 days old today. For the first 9 days she leaked a very fresh red mucas, just blobs if it all over the place! I had seen the vet shortly after whelping for a checkup mainly because of this bright colour which was not normal and a second visit about 4 days after the first as she was still loosing this messy bright red mucus muck with no smell.( she was given an Oxytocin shot to help clean her out)
Friday at 9 days nothing had changed so visited again, mum was extremely well with no temperature and the puppies were looking their best. So another visit, it was suggested that maybe a dead puppy or retained afterbirth but this discharge was the wrong colour.
My vet took a sample on a slide of this still very red blood like mucas and put it under the microscope. She was absolutely overloaded with bacteria !
She was prescribed 7 days on antibiotics and another homeopathic remedy to help too. 14 hours after the first antibiotic there was very little discharge and today it has almost finished.
I do agree that all bitches are different and that some will take a lot longer than others to cleanse properly, but it is knowing what looks normal and what is not normal.
In general if the puppies are looking well and mum is bright in herself then I personally would not worry too much, 10 days is still quiet early to have a clean vulva.
BUT, if you are in any doubt or not sure, don't risk the health of your bitch and puppy get down to your vets and have her checked out !

Good luck.

Thanks so much it wasn't particularly the discharge that made me worry just that I hadn't saw anything in the days following her delivery and now was seeing this, I'm guessing she has just been good at cleaning herself up. She is amazing with the puppy too I haven't seen any mess from her at all.thanks a lot for your help.
