Topic Dog Boards / Health / Struvite stones diet - what's safe?
- By Nikita [gb] Date 15.05.13 11:47 UTC
I have a new customer with a dog which is being fed Hills u/d for struvite stones.  Back in december she had a large amount of very large stones removed from her bladder, so I want to make sure any work I do with them doesn't risk a recurrence of the problem.  As my methods are based in positive reinforcement, treats are used quite a lot and certainly they will be beneficial in this case.  So I'm doing my research.

So, can anyone help suggest "safe" treats to use and is there any risk associated with remedies such as valerian or the flower remedies?  She's quite a nervous dog so this may be something that gets tried.

Thanks :-)

No idea about the valerian but I am pretty sure you can dry out the contents of a tin of hills and chop up to use as training treats.  Bit rubbish when it is just the same as a normal meal I know but at least it is something.  And if the dog is on Hills kibble I would think the tins (assuming there is an appropriate one would at least be a bit tastier!)
