Topic Dog Boards / Health / chlorophyll tablets

Would anyone mind telling me about the use of these tablets, have seen them mentioned before but know little about them apart from they are used by some people when their dogs are in season.

Chlorophyll (the chemical that makes grass green) is a natural deodoriser, and given as tablet form can improve halitosis as well as helping mask the smell of a bitch's hormones.

The only thing I found them useful for was removing money from by pocket. IMO when a bitch is in season any self-respecting male dog will know how ever many tablets you give the bitch or oil of eucalyptus you put on the dogs chest. It may? remove the smell but it does not change the body language.

I've found them very useful at preventing 'callers'. Body language is irrelevant as long as the bitch isn't exercised in popular dog-walking places because there are no dogs to see it!

Just speak as I have found. We don't have free range dog so callers not a problem.

Had assumed it was problems with males in the OPs home or kennels, because most people do not take the in season bitch to the park.

They are not ever supposed to fool a dog who gets close enough adn free acces to a bitch in season, though might confuse adn inexpereinced stud, so advisabel as teh instructions say to discontinue use a few days before a planned mating.

I to have found them useful here.  I have found them very useful in the days when there were more latchkey dogs, and now when road walking, if we pass another dog being walked (though we do cross to the other side of the road.

Only issue I now have is the sherleys ones used to come in 100's in a container, but now only 30.  Johnson's come in 50's.

If you go on Amazon you can get larger containers making a financial saving.

Be careful though, I tripped up here at my local health food shop and bought Chloral 500mg which does contain chlorophyll, but only 110mg per 6 tablets, and the sherleys and Johnson's ones are pure chlorophyll at 35mg per tablet.  So go for the Chlorophyll not the chlorella, which is more expensive anyway.

What a mine of information this forum is. I wondered what the chlorophyll tablets were for when mentioned in another thread. They will be very useful for my future dog as I intend to let her have at least one if not two seasons before spaying.

I have to say, hand on heart, my boy would not be fooled by it!  I've always used him to let me know when a bitch is ready, and he has acquired a 'nose' for in season bitches.

I don't think it is designed to fool a dog actually within reach of the bitch.
