Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Advocate affecting coat?
- By Carolcries Date 10.05.13 17:31 UTC
Hi, my breeder in her general instructions said she uses Frontline and Milmerbax as Advocate affects their coats?

I have given Milbermax but today at the vet the nurse and my mother wore me down until we bought Advocate instead of Frontline.

Is my breeder right or is it just another thing people say?

The puppy in question is a Papillon.

Thanks.

Frontline (I assume you mean the spot-on, not the spray?) is becoming less and less effective.

It does say in their side affects that it may cause greasy fur, if the breeder says so, always listen to the breeder. :-)

However, it may not be a breed specific complaint but just happened to one or two of her dogs? It may not happen to yours.

Try it as it is apparently the best thing to use now, and personally I've not had a problem with it (but I don't have Paps) but if it does cause a greasy coat then don't use it as of course you want to show this dog don't you?

Ah, thanks.

Actually she said Frontline spray, just double checked that on the information.

Really just wondered if anyone had anything to say wether Advocate affected/didn't affec their dogs' coats.

Thanks.

EDIT: Carrington; Yes he is for show and stud eventually. He has a lovely coat at the minute so don't want to change that. I'll try it as you say and hopefully it won't change it.

I use this on my chin and it has never had any adverse effect on his coat, his critiques have always mentioned his profuse coat of correct silky texture.

Hope this helps to put your mind at rest

I swap between advocate alown and advantage and milbimax as advocate does worms as well except tape worm so don't see the point in using a wormer as well, also my vet advised not to after I used advocate befor going to stay the weekend at a house and it turned out there dogs had tape worms so I got wormer from the vet and they said to Waite at least a week before using it after the advocate.

Any way never had any lasting effects, yes it makes where you put it on go all stiff but after a few days and a brush it's fine. So I wouldn't use it with in 3 days of a show.
