Hi,
Haven't been on her a while, but I know someone will help me. I have a fading puppy, we have been to the vet this morning and been given some fluids etc. We ave managed to get his temperature up a little, it was just below what it should be. He is now crying and opening his mouth. He still won't suckle, we have just given him some fluid by syringe, and some came back out of his nose. He is no 24 hours old, is it cruel to keep going with him, or should I let him go?? when we did get some milk into him earlier this morning he was sick. He has been toileting okay.
Thank you x
I have no advice, I just wanted to express my sympathy for you to be in such an awful situation right now. I'm sure someone will come along with some helpful advice soon. Hope you're pup gets through this storm and grows up to be a tough cookie xxx

Was he given AB's by the vet? Was there infection in the litter or dam? I would have him back to the vet today for AB's, keep him close to you (skin/skin) to keep his temp up and I would get the vet nurse to show you how to tube feed directly into his stomach to save his energy.
If the milk is coming back out through his nose, he is probably inhaling it rather than into his tummy.
Saying that, some pups are just not meant to be. Sorry.
Hi.
Have you checked for cleft palate? Milk usually comes out of the nose if they have this. Also check fore signs of infection around the navel . Put him under a "pig-lamp" to keep him warm.
You can try to tube-feed him. Your vet can show you how to doe it.
There info about fading puppy and blood transfusion? in this forum somewhere.
If nothing helps I think the best thing for the little one is to be put to sleep. I had to do this with one of my puppies the day after birth and it was hard but it was the most humane thing for little Bonus.
Good luck with the little one.

Thank you everyone, yes he was given Ab's and the vet did check for cleft palette. I just don't think it is meant to be for this little man x

Have you tried giving nutrodrops to boost energy in a small amount of fluid.
Feeding a cold/chilled pup means any food will lie in the stomach making it feel very uncomfortable, all the systems slow down if cold, for the first couple of weeks a pup has to be kept extra warm or the canine herpes virus can take hold and the pup will die, tucking the pup in your bra/clothing allows the constant extra heat and you can observe progress too.
Have you been getting the colostrum from Mum and giving it to the pup to provide antibodies to fight off infection?
Hope he improves soon
