Hi Guys

Need a bit of advice, one of my girls recently had a litter, towards the end of the pregnancy i noticed that one of my youngsters (her daughter who is 14 months) started to be a bit pushy with her, barging in front of her etc and just being a brat. As my girl was near the end of her pregnancy i just seperated them as mum went to sleep in a different part of the house in the whelping area.

However, pups are now over a week and mum wants to start coming down to the living area for half an hour every now and then to be part of the family again, but her daughter is hysterical!!

I put Mia the youngster in the cage when her mum first came down and she went berserk, lunging at the bars etc, a few days later and the same is still happening. I am frightened to let them meet just in case she actually does fly for her mum.

Thoughts please.....................

Keep them separate.  It is far too early to expect a newly whelped bitch to want another bitch in her presence.  Bitches have killed their own pups for less.

Lucy, my thoughts are that you may have a problem brewing here and there may be nothing you can do but keep them apart until the pups are weaned. then take them out for a walk together and hope for the best. Sadly you may have to keep them apart for ever.
