Hi All
Just wondered if anyone on here has found a stockist yet that has the 500 packs in stock, i have been trying for months to get hold of them but hyperdrug who i used to get them from have been constantly out of stock and the girl told me last time they would be going to prescription only drugs soon? Have tried my vets but 500 of them are really expensive to what they used to be online, living in hope that somewhere may have them soon.
We can only get the piriton packs of 30 now (I work at a vets) from out veterinary supplier, the large pots have been out of stock for a while so I doubt you will find any unfortunately.

I wonder what is going on in the pharmaceutical world? A number of times I've been in the chemist asking for particular medicines and been told that they can't get supplies. The latest one was Syndol just a couple of weeks ago, before that it was cuprofen which is now available again. Very odd as I don't recall this ever happening a few years ago - or maybe I didn't buy as much medicine then.

May not be related but our local coop has been out of paracetamol for two weeks now.
They couldnt understand why and were going to contact the Head office to find out.
It seems to happen to a lot of medication at the moment, not sure if its manufacturing or licensing problems?
Like you I've been watching the stocks of Piriton dwindling to a big fat zero and wondering whether I was going to reach the end of my supply before they started to reappear online. Sadly not.
I've just bought
Chlorphenamine 4mg from Chemist 4 u, see
here. As far as I can tell it's exactly the same ingredients as Piriton except for the colouring although I can't see whether the starch is
maize starch in both cases.
Piriton 4mg - chlorphenamine maleate, lactose, maize starch, magnesium stearate, colour: yellow iron oxide (E172). Piriton is a registered trademark of GlaxoSmithKline
Chlorphenamine 4mg - chlorphenamine maleate, lactose, starch, magnesium stearate, colour: quinoline yellow (E104). This chlorphenamine is marketed by Bristol Labs
I bought mine in blister packs of 28 which works out a little more expensive than Piriton for 500 BUT not by much. £12.42 for 504 instead of £9.99 for 500. However, according to information on my pack, you can buy chlorphenamine in packs of 500 and 1000 so you could shop around...
I've just started so I cannot tell whether these tablets have the same positive effect as Piriton but unless my dog has an issue with the colouring I'm sure it will do as good a job :)

Any update on anyone finding the large packs of Piriton? Seems very strange....
Dogs a babe - has your dog been ok on the Chemist -4 - U ones? I think I will have to resort to these too.
Hi Jayne
Yes he's been fine and they've worked exactly as his usual Piriton. The humans in the house have used them too! If you're in urgent need then I'd recommend them.
However, if you can wait, I got an email from the manufacturers of Piriton (GSK) to say they anticipate stocks going into wholesalers at the end of March. They suggest it might take another few days to get into pharmacies...
Good news for us regular users! :)
Thats good news is this for the 500 packs do you know??

Thanks for the update, might get a few packs to tide me over and then wait.
Yes Hamish75, I emailed them specifically regarding Piriton Allergy Tablets 500s.
Do you know what place are expecting these in, i usually get them from Hyperdrug but they told me on my last enquiry that the big packs would be prescription only??
Thanks will keep a look out for them been trying for ages with no luck

If anyone is genuinely desperate I can afford to let someone have some, as I have a full 500 tub that I bought from hyperdrug before Xmas.
Hi dogs a babe
I emailed hyperdrug today regarding the 500 packs of piriton and they have emailed me back tonight saying that they have no future dates for these to be back in stock so not sure where you got this information from as it seems hyperdrug won't be stocking these in the next few weeks??
> so not sure where you got this information from
From the
manufacturer direct. As follows:
Thank you for your email regarding Piriton Allergy Tablets 500s.
Please be advised that this product is currently out of stock and we anticipate stocks going into wholesalers end of March. You would need to give it a couple days to eventually filter into pharmacies.
May we apologise for the inconvenience this causes you.
Finally, thank you for contacting us.
Kind regards.

Thanks for the email, from what hyperdrug told me yesterday they won't be getting any of these stocks as the email said they had no future date for them coming back on so not sure who will be getting stocks of this in?
If I were you I'd buy Chlorphenamine for now and wait a while for stocks of Piriton to filter down to your usual supplier, or take JeanSW up on her very kind offer (thanks Jean x)
As previously mentioned I'm very happy with Chlorphenamine and the price difference isn't huge. My only gripe is that it's supplied in blister packs which are a pain and sometimes the tablets break. Not a problem if you are popping them straight onto food but a nuisance if you have to chuck tiny bits of pill down their necks or, as I do, decant them en masse into a more convenient dispenser.
I have got some left that will probably last me another month but i was just wondering who will actually be stocking these bigger packs as it doesn't seem that hyperdrug will be getting them back in, guess we will have to wait and see?
Anybody found any of the 500 packs online yet?

Chlorphenamine is Piriton without the brand name. It's half the price of the branded Piriton.
If you find out where to get 500 at once let me know as I have two dogs take it during allergy season

Thank you for this site. I bought 20 boxes of 28 for 15 inc delivery. Considering even own brand Clorphenamine in Asda ia 2-3 a box i have made quite a saving.

That is one of the great things about this site. I'm glad it was of help to you tillyandangel. I have been only too chuffed when I've picked up a site which has come by recommendations from CD members.

Well my curiosity made me go to our usual site, and they have several packs and the 500 tub. I hadn't been there in a while, as my last order was back in December when I stocked my usual Protexin and wormers.
But they are definitely not showing out of stock when I type Piriton into their search box.
Do you mean Hyperdrug Jean?
If you click on the 500 pack you get a message at the bottom of the next page to say "Sorry this product is currently not available to buy now"
No supplier I've previously bought from is showing stocks yet. Based on the email I received from the manufacturer I would have thought they might have started to filter through by now...

Hurray!
My vet told me they could no longer get hold of piriton (which used to cost me around £4.34 for a months supply) Instead they sold me Chlorphenamine in the blister packs £7.50 for just 28 tablets (which is 2 weeks for my dog) Not impressed but took the pack on the basis it was on insurance. Have now managed to get 500 piriton for £10! Have a call in to my vet about the Chlorphenamine rip off!!
They appear to be in stock at hyperdrug now
