A friend has a bitch in season - now day 11.  Had ovlution blood test today and only 0.6 - she isn't losing much now and it has very little colour.  She was mated previously on days 13 & 15.

Seems a very low level for a bitch on day 11 - is it possible she's having a split season?

more likely just a later ovulator.

I think she's worried because of the lack of blood loss.  My own girls ovulate late but they are still losing until day 16/17

Esme's last season was a stop-start affair and I had no idea what day we were on so had to do a number of blood tests. She had a few days of spotting then nothing, and then started spotting again. I think the only thing to do is keep blood testing.

Mine dont loose much at all and progesterone reading sub ovulation levels on day 11 wouldn't be particularaly untypical for mine. Mine are rarely anywhere near ready until day 18 ish

My bitch has heavy discharge allthe way through season. Ive blood tested day 12 which was 2.5, day 17 - 6.2, and back to the vet this afternoon for another being day 20 of her season. Got a feeling this is going to come back low going by my boy. Anne

They're not too keen on repeating bloods regularly because of cost - think she'll need to think about how much she actually wants a litter as we all have to done more than one test on occasions....

Yep typically have 4-5 so can plot changes and elevations

Only blood tested on two occasions, with the first I needed three tests to show ovulation.  with the second at day 17 she was just about to ovulate, so only tested once.

On average you should expect to test about three times, (usually every other day until ovualtion is confirmed, unless the result is very low) one test is rarely likely to be useful, unless it happens to show ovulation just occurred.

Update - a few days ago bitch started to lose red blood again and is still losing so sounds as though she's having a split season.  Think they will be doing a blood test on Monday to get an idea of what is happening!
