Hi everyone. My girl is 35 days, at day 32 she was loosing a little bloody discharge within her clear mucas, she did the same all weekend , the discharge was not smelly, she is well within herself, playing, eating, drinking, demanding tubby rubs. We took her to the vets yesterday, as it was still present yesterday morning. She had her scan which showed 5 babys, but the vet struggled to find heartbeats, after 5min she found 2 but didnt say anything about the rest. I could see the babys. She gave me some antis sylanox and just said good luck. I am going to take mt girl back 2 wk before due date  to check she is well and her babys. My question is , what the henrys could the blood have been ? Since she was scanned the blood has disapeared and has just her clear discharge. And if the some of the babys had died her body would expel them ? Thanks in advance

At this stage in the pregnancy dogs don't abort like humans they reabsorb the pups. Many on here report bleeding/discharge etc and then go on to have healthy pups, there is no way of knowing if the numbers would have been the same had there been no problem.

Vets are not always the experts at scanning and most will only confirm pregnancy not numbers, in my breed the pups wouldn't be much bigger than a kidney bean and would need to be in the right position to pick up a heart beat on every one, you got heartbeats on some so that is good, there may be pups the vet missed hiding high up in the ribs.

Give her the antibiotics and try not to worry.

I agree with Rhodach. One of our bitches bled during both her pregnancies and went on to have two healthy litters of average size for the breed. In fact her second litter was slightly larger than average. So yes, try not to worry. Good luck!

Same situation as i'm going through. Bitch started bleeding 3 weeks after matings, very heavy. Vet did a scan and basically said, litter is absorbed. Today we had another vet visit, scan revealed Atleast 3 pups all with great heartbeats and bitch is due today :) Good luck i'm sure everything will be fine.

For my own peace of mind (I'm a worrier!) I would be thinking about finding a scanner who could tell me more ie just the 2 heart beats, no heart beats etc.
