My nearly 6 year old castrated male , he was castrated at about 10months and also had a retained testicle found after some difficulty in the abdomen. He has never shown any interest in bitches not even when our pom x had her first season. She is now spayed, he also lives with my unneutered flatcoat who isnt in season and isnt showing any signs of coming in season.

In the last couple of weeks he has shown a real interest in a 2 year old mal bitch unnetured. Flirting, trying to mount her, rolling on the ground under her nose. Not behaviour he has ever displayed. She is not in season nor expected to be.
Yesterday while out on a walk he met 2 bitches and imediately attempted  to mount them. Luckily the owners were amused rather than cross and he was immediately stopped and put back on his lead. Neither bitch was in sesason
I am now both confused and concerned. He is showing no interest sexually with the unneutered bitch he lives with his behaviour hasnt changed in any other way nor his health as far as I know.
Any advice please on how to safley handle this ?

Castration does not stop mounting the only thing it stops is procreation. The bitch excited him and he did what most dogs would do. It is a bigger problem if dogs start mounting him that can lead to problems.

I realise that  Nova :)
I was just surprised that after nearly 6 years  and he has shown interest  and now in 3 bitches in quick succession. obviouly my two bitches at home arnt his type thank goodness :)

Fortunately no dog has tried to mount him as I dont think he would allow that.and I dont want to have a punch up on my hands

Our eldest castrated boy is unfortunate that he attracts unwarranted interest from others including our other dog, has never shown any interest to mount others but interestingly aged 9 have resonantly caught him mounting his cousin! No fool like an old fool!

maybe he is just very fussy and was waiting for the right lady only they arrived in 3's

Interestingly I randomly bumped into a couple walking their castrated male lab ages ago, on lead, they said they had to keep him on because he was trying to hump all the girls and it was because he had a systemic yeast infection!

Oh that's interesting.... I guess that falls under "sudden changes in behaviour" which might need checking out with the vet?

Will see what happens and bear that in mind thank you

Good question!  Haven't got a clue she is two now and hasn't had one yet. Haven't had any experience of silent seasons but no dogs have been a problem with her
