Hi,
I have just been reading some of the messages posted about 'Kongs' on the 'general' board, I was thinking how popular they are and thought about buying one for my pup Oscar,as he's only 12 weeks old, and feeding on Pedigree puppy advance, would it upset the balance of his complete food if I filled a kong with other stuff, like veggy bits etc.the cream cheese sounds wonderful, what sort of titbits would you advise for him? I've not seen one of these Kongs yet, do they have them in different sizes.. what are they made out of?
Kind Regards Sandy xx :)

My pup hates his kong unless there is a little Peanut butter in there! However, I found he licks it so much its get covered in saliva and then picks up loads of filth! He doesn't care though!

Sterilise your Kongs in Milton, like you would baby dummies and teats. Kills any bugs and as long as rinsed, doesn't seem to put the dogs off. :)

So do mine! I'm puzzled as to why you'd feel the need to sterilise a Kong though - scientific research has shown that we can be paranoid about germs to the detriment of our health........ And when you consider the disgusting things most dogs wouldn't think twice about eating (or suffer any ill effects from) I think that's going a bit OTT IMHO

I just give mine a scrub in hot water to get any leftover food out

A bottle brush is really good for this or if the hole in the end is very small a teat brush for babies bottles is perfect :)

Hi Sandy, hope your wee one carries on loving the Kong! They are yummy to pass the time with a treat your dog likes!
Regarding washing, the high temperature in a dishwasher is also a form of sterilisation and not all of us have a dishwasher. (That is why I use Milton ) With small children visiting and 4 dogs I'd rather clean in Milton every so often. IMHO only and others welcome to theirs. Yes we are a cleanliness obsessed nation, but at the end of the day it is a personal choice. Please, these are only my thoughts and I'm not looking for an argument!
Let dogs be dogs and chew grotty things!
Love:)

Hiya Shlugh,
Well I'm certainly glad I heard about the Kong, what a wonderful invention.. Yes with 4 dogs and children popping inand out, of course you'd have to be on the cautious side regarding cleanliness.. I think I'll pop Oscars Kong into the dishwasher to be on the safe side, at least that side of cleanliness is within my control, when we're outside and Oscar is putting EVERYTHING that moves and EVERYTHING that doesn't into his mouth, then to some extent that is out of my control. It's great to put a message on the board and wait for all the replies, all the different views, thats what makes discussions interesting, at least when things get a bit heated here on CD then its purely because of peoples love and concern for the welfare of dogs.. As you say (rightly so) dogs will be dogs..and i'm sure that 99% of the people here on CD want them to be 'Just that' :) :)

Oh dear, I don't know if that last sentence sounded the way I meant it too.. I mean that 99% of people here want dogs to have what dogs (or any other living creature) have the right to.. Our respect, love and compassion and understanding..
:)
