As all business are now going have to do this from April (smaller ones have until oct) I am going to do it instead of continuing to pay our accountant who does the PAYE at present, no doubt it will cost more as it has to be done every month from April.
My question is its only me and my sister on the payroll and we don't have a separate computer for the business but save all business documents and invoices (only 1or 2 a month)onto a external hard disc/drive thing so I can pass to her when I go away etc and she has all info and can upload onto her comp. The HMRC are doing a free download software for the RTI but can we have it on 2 computers and save info every week to external memory then be able to swap who does the PAYE?
I was going to buy cheap laptop just for business but we don't really need it except for this so it's a bit of waste.

Once you register with HMRC you will get a user number and have to select a password, I take it the free download is on the HMRC website. If this is the case you just need to log in from any PC/laptop with your details and be able to use it.
There should be no reason for the accountant to charge more as it is just a small exta step and the end of the payroll, should be gone in a flash for 2 employees but there are stories of companies having to fork out extra for this to external companies.

Well I went for new laptop as sister uses  Mac & worried about having to download stuff as she not bril at that sort of thing.
New laptop has windows 8 and I don't like it plus it won't read my office 2007 disc, not happy.
