We have a new one, some how it has been positioned in my lounge!

My old gas boiler was neatly disguised, this has been positioned where was once a book shelf and I can not believe I have been foolish enough to allow this happen without proper consideration.
So much constant building work...........

Now.............2 days in I am revolting I have named it 'UGLY BETTY' and will have to either disguise it somehow or pay a fortune to have moved to I dont know where!

Any ideas?

Almost been there and got the same t-shirt!

I had a new one fitted in a previous home and expected it to fit into a kitchen wall unit.  It was HUGE and took over the whole kitchen and I reckon that I could have powered half of Somerset wth it - I was horrified.  I was told that it must be covered and so I just put a few lines of artificial ivy trailing down it but I hated it until the day the I moved!  On the plus site it never let me down!

In this house I had a Worcester Bosch fitted - a much smaller unit - and was guided by the plumber to have it put in the loft.  Another bad idea as it takes about 8 gallons of cold water to get any hot in the kitchen and so I always boil the kettle.  I won't do that again either! :(

Location does make it central for the whole of the house (she says grudgingly :( )

I know half of me says get over it and disguise it, I do just feel a little cheated.

The whole building stuff going on is taking so long I am fed up and probably its a matter of accepting anything just for an end result which is not the way it should be. So much constant dust and dirt and intrusion.

Our Vaillant is in the old airing cupboard  :-)     They just used the existing pipework.  Downside is that it's in the bedroom, but close to the kitchen so not too bad.

Can't you build a cupboard round it, with ventilation on the sides or front?   You can get decorative pierced panels which would provide cover and ventilation

Just had a Worcester Bosch one fitted into a cabinet in new bathroom,just cannot get my head round the timer thingy dont want to have it on when they say LOL,want to have it on when I want it on ,As its a program one not just what I want,all programs come on at 16 degrees & I dont want it on at night when I am sleeping.Get a sore throat when sleeping with it on ,plus when in bed am nice & cosy so dont need it on .Much prefer the old one. switch it to water or heating ,turn thermostat up if needed .To old for all these new fangled things

I can do all that you have said you would like to do codyscholasmum with our Worcester Bosch boiler.  Maybe your problems are more to do with the control unit than the boiler.  Have a word with the heating engineer! :)

The plumber that put it in got fed up with me complaining ,he tried to show me how to do it then just told me to read the instructions ,as if I hadnt ,just am unable to understand how to do it lol I take the unit to bed with me & hide it under the pillow only way to stop it coming on during the night.OH is worse than me at least I an make it come on when I want ,just dont want it coming on when I dont want it on  !!!!

Can you control it with the thermostat?  Turn it down when you go to bed and up again in the morning?

Thats what I am doing,only its programmed to come on if the temp goes down to 16 degrees it comes on automaticley (spelling  !!!)

The Airing cupboard is now gone, it was in daughters room and she is glad to have a room without it.
So the box room is becoming the room for contents oof the airing cupboard as that is the spare room.

I am now thinking the cost of moving it is going to be vast and probably It would be as well to get a decent cabinet built around it to blend in with the lounge.
I need more building stuff done in here yet, a door moved walls plastered refloored............so it goes on.

All this building and house stuff is unsettling :(

Mines a Combi boiler in the loft.....it takes ages to get hot water, in fact some days it never reaches the kitchen taps.
The bath only half fills with hot water before it goes cold again and the sink taps....well just forget the hot tap!

Heatings great, thermostat on the landing and hot radiators.

This is the second house with the same problem both with Combi boilers.

Would seriously consider storage heaters and an open fire if I ever had to change systems.

We were advised against a Combi boiler for the reasons you have mentioned, Chatsworth.  Apparently, all boilers  now have to be 'condensing' boilers but not all 'condensing' boilers are 'combi' boilers. :) 

Oldilocks, that's good to know if I ever have to change it.

I dreaded that time thinking its going to cost me thousands to have to replace it with another Combi that's going to be just the same!

This is a condensing boiler, it seems to good with brilliant water pressure too.....just the position thats the problem.
Time will tell.

It was your choice though was it?  I must admit that I do think you've made a huge mistake BUT I wonder if your tradesman is also at fault in allowing you to do it without at least trying to change your mind.  A living room is an unsuitable place for a heating boiler.  Surely there were other options

Get it moved.  You hate it there AND it will adversely affect your house value when you come to sell

Too right!     Apparently it's up there with divorce and moving house in the stress ranges

Have been through it myself and had to live in it too.   We had lovely builders, didn't start before 9!  Worked through till 5 and didn't go awol either, they came and stayed till it was finished :-)    If they had been 'normal' builders I'd have been in the loony bin ;-)

We've got a condensing one, with a room thermostat (as well as on the radiators)   I absolutely DID NOT want a digital, computerised jobby - too much to go wrong and too complicated.     I like total control of my heating and I want it OFF at night :-)

They seem to be a thing of the past, which is sad because if you do line-dry outside, the clothes need airing, but I suppose that can be done on a clothes horse in a warm room, or on a radiator. I have had a battle with my old mum, who always line-dried clothes but with the summer we had, plus the fact it's now all down to me to wash & dry everything, we weren't getting anything done. She's now reluctantly allowed drying on the radiators but I can't see us managing without a tumble dryer in future. That pains me a lot, I really don't like the idea of using so much energy.

At least drying on the radiators makes the house smell good... a bonus when you have dogs and an elderly mother who's lost her sense of smell.

It's not good, is it :( Ours has been going on non-stop for 4 1/2 years - at least another year to go :)

I dont even know if I made a choice about the position of it, the other one was in here (the lounge) within a chimney breast where once we had a solid fuel back boiler.
So it was, I suppose sort of assumed by my OH and the gas contractor ............

If it was in the same recess okay, but its alongside, I am getting to grips...a bespoke cabinet built in keeping with the rest of the room??

A lesson though. I am going to pay 100% attention and guard against my OH who likes to think he can do all.

Daisy 4 1/2 years? ouch!
I am begining to regret saying that I wanted no more holidays until we got on top of the house!

I have asthma back after many years, no doubt the stress and dust, my one remaining dog has woken us twice in the early hours to throw toys at us and invite us to play!!  She is we think a little disturbed by it too    And I still can't make my mind up what type of flooring to put down in the hallway or lounge.

Karen if you've had a gas fuelled boiler fitted then it's my understanding that it isn't actually allowed in a lounge...

Hmm we having new boiler soon and was going for the worcester cdi combi boiler, but after reading codys post i may find
out more about them first as I would be cross if you cant set it manually to suit your needs..

Paxo,if you find out a way to do it manualy please let me know .This preset programme thingy is doing my head in. I need a idiots guide on how to set it .

I cant find anything to say that would be the case here. Guernsey is diffferent to England.
But the gas tech chap is very professional in his other stuff just not aesthetically.

Just been having a look :) I think we have a local flooring place that does it so will certainly go in and give closer inspection closer to the time.
I have been toying with tiles and wood, carpets and going around in circles.  Seems I am not a natural homemaker some people seem to actually enjoy doing these things...........

Codysholasmum I have just had the new worsester bosch boiler fitted last week.as far as hot water and central heating its brilliant. I will send you a PM about the thermostat temp thingy  to let you know how I do mine..unless of course you have got it sorted now lol....

We have a gas fuelled back boiler in the lounge with a gas fire front it has been there since the house was built in the 70's. It is on the party wall most fumes go up the chimney. It is regularly serviced by the gas board who have no problems that it is in the lounge the main requirement is an air brick which they installed to meet the current requirements. These requirements change quite frequently as this is not the first ventilation  we have  had to install to meet requirements.
In summary lounge is fine as long as there is sufficient ventilation which is decided by gas regs

It wasn't that the lounge was the problem so much as the aesthetics of it.
It is not fronted by a fire of any kind, it is just an ugly white appliance.

However as an expensive update to this tale of my woe, the man is returning to resite it.
After my OH confessed he told the man that it was okay to put it where he did!
