I have one chance at getting my girl to takethis year as the stud dog owner isnt going to be around much and wont keep my girl for me nor can the lad come home with me(totally understand).im ovulation testing and im worried i wont get the right day.
the stud dog owner hasnt actually said i cant have three matings but id much prefer it to be sure...

im travelling just over 2 and half hours there and then back again..im more than happy to do the drive as its nothing comapred to how far ive travelled before but wouldnt it be so much more easier if my girl could stay...

how do u work?i wouldnt leave my girl with just anyone by the way....

kinda need some advise on what best to do and what day AFTER ive got a positive reading...im told its between 2 and 4 days after ovulation to mate?

I've never done ovulation testing so can't comment on that, also never had a bitch not get pregnant. Personally I wouldn't want to leave a bitch with the stud dog. In my toy breed I wouldn't worry about leaving the bitch as they tend to get on with everyone (not so my big breed!) but my mentor says she has never had a pregnancy result when she has left a bitch with the stud dog owner, so instead I have had the dog come to stay with me every time. So easy when they're tiny. In my big breed I have travelled and gone twice, when it's been around 3 hours journey time. When it was longer I have stayed in hotels. Once didn't have time to go back with 3 hr journey so only got the one mating, we still ended up with 9 pups.

Could you book into a B&B in the area for those few days?

If it's Idexx they usually give you a suggested window for mating. I usually do two matings, the first one on their earliest suggested day, and the second mating two days later. No-one's missed yet. I think Keith Shea's service gives similar advice to Idexx, but you post the sample off yourself.

The only time I've had more than two matings was when we used our own dog, and then the 3rd one was a bit half hearted I thought.

And I've never left any of our bitches anywhere, much prefer to take them twice. Except for once when we went abroad and only had one mating. (That resulted in a huge litter).

Good luck.

id love to stay over it would make things easier however and yes totally typical but its unfortunate that i cant this time..hubby has just this week started a new job and we have four kids to be getting up and ready for school he leaves at 5am so im having to do the rubbish school run as well as working ect or id have chosen that option to start with.

shes been mated before and had a lovely sized litter.and all i did there was wait til day 14 (when she was flagging) and had her mated day 14 and 16....result 4 pups...10 days early from 1st mating ......which is about right for this breed...
i think maybe im over worried because she missed last time and only had one mating....

If your blood testing you should in theory be fine with one mating, you know for definite she's ovulated to mate when they suggest and you have done all you can. For example if she ovulated Monday and you mate Tuesday or Wednesday the egg has gone over by weds/ thurs so no point repeating mating Thursday/ Friday. I've just mated my bitch on suggested day from idexx. Travelled 8hours and had one tie. All signs says she is pregnant. Good luck
