Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Bullmastiff ringcraft training Leicestershire??
- By Sacha [gb] Date 12.03.13 10:53 UTC
Hi guys we have a 5month old pup and we would like to find a training class for showing somewhere close to Leicester. Can anyone help please?

The KC site lists these Leicestershire ringcraft classes. Hope this helps. :-)

Thank you, there are no particular classes for bullmastiffs showing in east or west midlands but we can try calling one of the general training groups. Do you thinks breed specific group would be better?

Breed specific ringcraft classes are almost unheard of, mixed ones are the usual way to go you just need to check with your breeder what is normal for the breed and then practice that.

Hi Sasha
I have recently started out with my first bullmastiff puppy (now 10 mths) and we go to a general ringcraft class which is great for general stuff. I would say try and see your breeders often  for them to check your progress, as with any breed
getting breed expert help is vital. I was getting it wrong until 3 weeks ago then we went to a breed show and got one of the expert handlers to give me a 5 min master class - this made all the difference in me presenting my pup ... if I hadnt have asked for help we wouldnt have got best puppy in breed in crufts on sunday! Good luck with your pup - keep me posted on your progress!

Hi Dexy, thank you for your advice!

Well Done! :)

Yes we definitely need to see our breeder and act quick to get him trained :)

Don't panic, go to obedience classes and train the dog to respond to you - ringcraft is more about training the owner so as long as the dog has learned to pay attention to you and to walk on a loose lead ringcraft will be an easy step.

You'll need to keep an eye on your pups ears too. We had to tape our pups ears every week for months to stop them looking like bulldog ears. The "felt to felt" method didnt work so we had to do the bonnet method!! Just inbox me if you get stuck!
