Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / When to separate

My girl is due any day. I have 5 dogs and they are used to running about together. She has had a litter before.
I have had the whelping room set up and trying to show her it is hers and only her room. Keeping the others out and encouraging her in. When I leave her in the room at the moment she just barks to be let out with the others. I always find this separation time difficult and wondered how others manage. Any tips.

I do what the bitch  wants and in each of mien they have never wanted to be parted from their friends until in labour, and in some cases until birth is imminent.

I too leave the girls to do what they want, they are put in the whelping room for short periods when I am working upstairs but let them out if upset, the others can see into the room but not get in.

OK thanks for that. I will wait until she is ready. I have just shown her the room again but she wants to be out with the others.
