Hi all

HELP!

I'm due to be at Crufts tomorrow and my dog has cut his pad on some glass (I think) while swimming.  I dressed it and 4 hours later it's still 'open' and is bleeding when he moves his paw.  I'm off to the vets a bit later but I'm starting to panic about Crufts now.  I should stress that he is showing no signs of discomfort, and isn't limping one bit when there is no bandage on (of course he's acting the wounded soldier when he has a bandage on it!), my concern is making it worse by a day at Crufts.  And I obviously don't want my dog bleeding in the ring!! 

The cut is straight, quite deep and about 1 cm long.  I'm hoping the vets can use some magic superglue or something?

What do you think to our chances of making it to Crufts?

CVL, I'm sure there are others who will know better, but someone I know who races huskies told me they use hemorrhoid cream. Good luck.

Superglue if it is a clean cut

Sadly you might find that whilst he's ok today he'll feel it tomorrow.  Also something as deep as this sounds might be a problem for him on tarmac or gravel car parks and there's quite a lot of walking involved.  You may just have to wait and see.

Give him a hug from us - oh and one for you too.  What a shame for you both :)

I know this is not what you want to hear but if he has a deep cut on his pad it is not fair to take him to Crufts. Only you can see how bad it is but I know I would not expect one of my dogs to do the amount of walking involved in a day at Crufts if they were injured. Heartbreaking I know when we plan all year for this day but it is really  not fair if he has anything other than a very superficial cut. Can you leave him at home with someone so you don't have to miss your day out too?

Thanks all. I was worried about it because of the bleeding but the vet has looked and thinks it looks quite minor. She's glued it together, which she said wouldn't normally be necessary for this kind of wound, but did it just to make it a bit more resilient. The vet said she sees no problem in going tomorrow (I told her about the walking involved), providing I keep the foot dry on the way to and from the car. If the glue hasn't held in the morning, or if he's showing signs of discomfort, then I definitely won't take him. It'd be a shame not to take him, I don't expect to do anything, but he had the time of his life last year with all the fuss and goings on!!
