Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Crufts Fantasy Line-Up
- By Luckygirl [gb] Date 06.03.13 18:22 UTC
After reading an old annual I came across an article which asked judges for who would be in their Crufts fantasy line up and since Crufts is nearly upon on us (and its something to pass the time whilst we all wait for the main event to kick off!) I was wondering what breeds would be in Champdoggers dream line up and what breed would go BIS and RBIS? These are mine -
Terrier - West Highland White Terrier. (I own one so how could I not have one take my Terrier group?!)
Hound - Ibizan Hound.
Toy - Papillon.
Utility - Standard Poodle (This one was surprisingly difficult!)
Gundog - Pointer.
Working - Alaskan Malamute.
Pastoral - Australian Shepherd.

I think ultimately my BIS would have to go to the West Highland White Terrier and my Reserve would be a toss up between the Malamute and the Australian! It'd be down the performance factor I guess and since this is purely fantasy I can pick my favourite breeds without worrying about the BYB fall out ;)

Fun idea!

Terrier - Border Terrier
Hound - PBGV or Saluki
Toy - Cavaliers, of course!
Utility - Dalmatian
Gundog - American cocker!
Working - hmm, perhaps St Bernard?
Pastoral - I think I'll go with your Australian Shepherd!

And my Cavalier would be BIS with the Yankee Reserve. Biaised, me? :-D

Terrier: Sealyham
Hound: Beagle
Toy: King Charles (not Cavalier!)
Utility: Dalmatian (of course!)
Gundog: Cocker spaniel;
Working:Great Dane;
Pastoral: Cardigan corgi

BIS would be the Sealyham with the KC being RBiS, if only because they'd be breeds that BYBs would find it difficult to exploit!

Terrier- Soft-Coated Wheaten ;)
Hound- BGV Petit
Pastoral- Corgi
Utility- French Bulldog
Toy- Affenpinscher
Gundog-Irish Setter
Working-Newfoundland

BIS SCWT, RBIS Newfoundland

Not knowing what's coming in from other countries I'm going on what I think may win rather than I would like to win
Terrier: Norwich
Hound: PBGV
Pastoral: Aussie or Samoyed
Utility: Dalmation
Gundog: Gordon Setter
Working: Dobermann

My fantasy choice... and it will remain a fantasy!

Terrier - Staffordshire. The world needs to see what a good one looks like!
Hound - Pharaoh
Toy - Cavalier KCS
Utility - Shiba Inu
Gundog - Flat coated retriever
Working - Bernese MD
Pastoral - Belgian Shepherd Dog.... any of the 4! :)

BIS? Out of the above, the only one realistically in with a chance would be the Pharaoh or the Shiba.
RBIS - Flatcoat

Don't you believe it!
Many people think that the Cavalier they own IS called a King Charles.

Terrier.... Wire fox
Hound.....Norwegian Elkhound
Toy......Pomeranian or papillion
Utility... Jap Spitz :-)
Gundog..... Cocker spaniel
Working... Alaskan malamute
Pastoral..... Sammoyed or Australian Shepard.
As you can see mine is heavily influenced by Spitz :-)
- By Cani1 [gb] Date 07.03.13 08:11 UTC
Utility : French Bulldog
Toy : Italian Greyhound
Working : Rottweiler
Pastoral : Pyrenean Mountain Dog
Terrier : Bull Terrier
Hound : Basset Hound
Gundog : Bracco Italiano
Quite a mixed lot , I've never owned a hound but that was my hardest group to choose from so many lovely breeds that I admire from afar in that group.

Very true - it'd be a real shock for some people!

Many people think that the Cavalier they own IS called a King Charles.

I know - I still giggle over the grooming client who told me over the phone she had a Cavalier and a King Charles. When she arrived, they were a slightly snub nose Cavalier and a slightly long nose bigger Cavalier. You could see why she thought it to be fair, but they were both definitely Cavaliers!

Forgot toy in mine, prob Peke or Pug

My wish list differs somewhat
Hound: IWH
Terrier: Airdale
Utility: Akita
Toy: Griffon
Gundog: Gordon Setter or Labrador
Pastoral: Samoyed
Working: Rottweiler or BMD

I like a stocky breed of dog, so this is my current wish list without seeing or knowing what's entered. As long as the dogs going in the groups are correct for the standard and are fit for function I'm generally happy, unlike last year where there was lameness and many dogs overweight, these should of got to the group and to then place them... The judges are at serious fault and aren't doing any breed any favours.... *i have to have a rant somewhere ;-) *

Okay as there won't be a BYB problem :) this is my results:

Toy: Papillon (with Cavalier second -must be Blenheim)
Pastoral: Malinois (Both Toy and Pastoral mine, of course LOL!) (with any other BSD as second)
Utility: Toy Poodle
Gundog: Golden Retriever -a rich almost red one!
Working: Saint Bernard
Hound: Norwegian Elkhound
Terrier: Cairnterrier
BIS: The Malinois, of course, with the Pap as reserve
- By HuskyGal Date 07.03.13 10:27 UTC
Well as it's fantasy I'm going to go all out! ;-)

Terrier Group: Glen of Imaal
Hound Group: Go, go Podengo!!!!! (Norsk Elg Hund truthfully, but couldn't resist!)
Toy Group:     Coton de TulĂ©ar
Utility Group:  Canaan Dog
Gundog Group: Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
Working Group: Canadian Eskimo Dog
Pastoral Group: Bergamasco Shepherd

Big up the Ancient Pariah breeds.
:-D

Melikey this game....

Terrier:Bull terrier
Hound group:Afghan
Toy group:HAS to be the chinese crested!
Utility:Standard poodle of course
Gun dog:irish setter all the way!
Working:the rottweiler
Pastoral:Rough collie

- By LJS Date 07.03.13 12:15 UTC
My choices would be :

Terrier - Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier
Hound -Foxhound
Toy- Louchen Little Lion Dog ( like that fact they say they aren't yappy :-) )
Utility - Tibetan Terrier ( I really struggled in this group )
Gundog- Irish Water Spaniel
Working - Leonberger ( I just love them as puppies as their facial expressions are priceless)
Pastoral - Australian Shepherd

BIS would be the IWS
RBIS - the Foxhound
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 07.03.13 13:26 UTC

>Both Toy and Pastoral mine, of course LOL!

Yes, the Toy and Gundog winners were both mine too. :-D
- By Luckygirl [gb] Date 07.03.13 20:23 UTC
Looks like one of you predications was right with the PBGV! My little Westie nearly got there! Always next year! :)
- By suejaw Date 07.03.13 20:45 UTC
Bet she goes BIS!!! :-)
- By LJS Date 07.03.13 20:48 UTC
She we still have Merlin to come ...
- By Luckygirl [gb] Date 07.03.13 20:52 UTC
I think the most fantastic thing about Crufts is there is no absolute sure fire wins. I agree that my money would be on Jilly but there might be something lurking in the waters as they say ;)
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 08.03.13 21:50 UTC
I like her the best of the 4 so far, with the Tib 2nd....
- By tooolz Date 09.03.13 19:39 UTC
Well.....just had my first phone call....

" I didn't think much of the Cavalier that won the toy group"..... Groan :-(
- By suejaw Date 09.03.13 21:07 UTC
My wish list and 2 predictions aren't too bad, well done the Lab x
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 09.03.13 21:28 UTC
Lol I didn't think it was a good Cavalier either.... :-D

Thought that Lab was pretty chunky - can't imagine him doing much working in the field! Glad the Yankee got shortlisted though. :-)

Compared to most show labs I've seen he looked pretty slim!
- By Boody Date 09.03.13 23:09 UTC
I was rooting for the Chesapeake, not usually my type of breed but liked that one.
- By Luckygirl [gb] Date 10.03.13 18:11 UTC
And another prediction/wish list! Award for the psychic member of the year is clearly yours ;)

I agree with the sentiment, he's relatively moderate... but as a Lab person, I have to object to the comment about 'most' show Labs.  There's definitely been a shift towards lighter dogs doing well, and many more people going for dual purpose types.  Of course there are fatties, but I really don't think it's 'most' of them anymore :-)
- By suejaw Date 10.03.13 20:43 UTC
Lol, I'm not bad at picking out the winners if I sit there and watch. The predictions of what I thought would win and what is like to win are down to this years performances at general ch shows.

Jilly was IMO the only one who was going to take BIS, everyone said that before Crufts started, however she deserved it, what a star she was x
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 10.03.13 20:50 UTC
I picked her too, so glad she won! I was wrong about Reserve though, I was torn between the Tib, the Aussie and possibly the Charlie. :-)
