Hello all,

I am infuriated that my 2 year old bullmastiff was viciously attacked today by 2 loose Great Danes......my dog walker walks him each day around our sub division and goes past 2 Great Danes that are always barking constantly at their back gate.....it's an open type metal gate with a small fence by the side.....today as she approached she saw that the fence section was missing and the owners had piled up bricks and rocks as a temporary measure to keep them in.....as Boscoe walked by quietly they both leapt over the fence and made a charge for her and Boscoe.....

Both were very aggressive on approach and leapt on him and bit him multiple times .....puncturing his neck, shoulders and ears....my poor guy could not get up as they were loose and he was still on a lease being held by my walker....she was calm and managed  to free him after being quite aggressive with the Great Danes herself ...she gladly was not injured.....

2 neighbors came out to help and also managed to draw the attention of the Danes away.....they ran off into the streets.....

It now appears that the fence has been down over the weekend and the owners piled the bricks up and left the house for work....these dogs are housed outside all day !

I have returned from the vets where he has been shaved and stitched for his wounds....

I reported it to animal control who are going to investigate....there is a strict leash law here in Houston, Texas and I hope they throw the book at the owners....when I left a note at the house one of the neighbors had secured the fence with some wooden boards and managed to get the dogs back in the yard.

I will be sending my vet bill to them .....

Why do people not take responsibility for their pets especially BIG ones like that and if they are also known to be aggresive to other dogs....it really annoys me....

How awful and scary, I hope your poor dog makes a speedy recovery.

Hope your lovely boy is soon on the mend, and the Dane owners brought to book.

So sorry, for your boy hope he makes a full recovery, and that the Dane owners are made to pay all the vets bills.
How irresponsible of them to just go off to work knowing the fencing was not secure.

He has eaten well tonight....he has 3 large wounds  6" wide and 1/2" deep...real deep and multiple punctures....but he has been sooooo good, no sign of any change of mood and happy playing in the garden tonight playing ball....and with the neighbors cat.....and our yard guys young children.....he loved the attention and had his belly rubbed.....

We have put a harness on him for his evening stroll as the wounds are right where his collar is.....we walked slowly past the house where it happened (to keep the routine) and he walked calmly by ....Danes barking AGAIN....

We await owners response....

I love this big man....what a gentle character ....if only humans could remain so calm and controlled.....I was ready to kill when I walked by...

Sorry about multiple posts......no idea why?

I am in Italy and dog attacks are common if I walk on the fields by my home.Usually they are garden escapees,or strays,or the farmers own hunting dogs out for some solo adventures.Things  got so bad years ago I used to say I felt like Rambo when I prepared to walk my dog ....I would carry a pepper pot in my pocket,and a button-opening umbrella,to open up in the dogs face to block attacks.I even tried carrying little firework bangers ,which I let off once when three dogs came across the fields to attack my girl. The latter idea  had to be abandoned,as although it worked,the dogs ran away,the field started to smoulder and was at risk of burning. I had to do a rain Dance e to stomp out the smoldering grass.
Just this month I have bought a dazer..an ultrasound device that promises to stop approaching dog in its tracks.I have used it once already.The dazer works! The dog was a male,approaching with stiff tail and on point...at 100m, I pointed the dazer and he just stopped,then turned around and went on his way.Huge success!
I hope your boy is ok and keeps his lovely nature.  With  dogs as big as the Danes he was very lucky  not to have been killed.I hope you get you bill paid in full and the man makes sure he gets his fence sorted properly,the dogs sound like a liability for sure.

Poor lad, glad he's ok though.  Might be worth keeping an eye on his movement for a bit - danes are big dogs of course and they might have knocked something out of line when they got to him.  My River was attacked by one back in September, no puncture wounds as the owner was right there and got him off sharpish but because of his sheer size he knocked her back/pelvis/hips out of line and caused her a lot of pain and ongoing trouble.  She's currently having hydrotherapy but has today hurt herself again just running after one of my others, it's going to be a long slog getting her right again.

Meantime, any word from animal control?  And don't worry about routine - until you know those dogs are properly secure I'd be avoiding them like the plague.  It's not worth the risk of a repeat.

Poor Boscoe!! Hope he's feeling better soon and finds some friendly doggies to play with to remind him, they are not all horrible!!

PS  Had to laugh at how 'Americanised' you're becoming allready.  Something was 'real', your 'neighbors' and your 'yard guy'!!!lol.  Fiting in nicely?

Cracar it's quite frightening how natural it is now.....trouble is if you don't learn to speak "their" version of English no bugger understands you!! Hehehe...

I managed to get to the owner....noticed his van on the drive on way home so knocked the door.....I had a good old rant!!

When I finally gave him time to speak he was very apologetic and said he was devasted at what had happened and blamed no one but himself....he thought he dogs were well trained enough to not leap over a pile of bricks.....he has since repaired the gap....nothing from animal control.....

He also accepted the vet bill without question too.....

Think it helped he was from Scotland !!!...small world.....

Well at least he's apologised and coughed up for the vet, you'd have thought if he was that devastated he'd have come to your house to do a bit of grovelling, I know I would have in his place.

Poor Boscoe, send him a big hug, he is such a brave boy, glad he is not affected by this, lovely to hear that he has bounced back.

Unfortunately, when dogs are left outside like these Danes they become very territorial and will not be safe when other dogs walk by. How silly of the owners to think stacking a wall would keep them in.

It's lucky that your dog walker managed to save him from worse, I hope she is not too shaken, she is probably having a few sleepless nights over this too.

Glad the owner has admitted liability.

Your right Kelly our walker has blamed herself....not realising she did a great job stopping what could have been a very nasty incident and could of got hurt herself.....having said that she has a battered
rescue boxer/mastiff cross puppy so knows how to deal with rambunctious dogs..!

Our boy walks off leash from the end of the sub division ...english speak...main road (approx 1/2mile) and she trains him off leash back to the house....he does this perfectly past other dogs and ignores them....even past the Danes today....I am so proud of my boy.....
