Hi All
Our neighbours lost there staffie earlier in the year and are getting a lovely bulldog puppy they were telling us over the weekend that they have looked into insuring him and have been quoted £60 per month with petplan and were enquiring about other insurance companies, i told them to be weary who they go with as after our situation with halifax when they pulled out on us with Robbie i am very unsure about going with other insurers other than petplan as i know they are 1 of the best, you never know who else will pull out down the line now some have started.
I am not sure how much bulldogs are to insure and said i would ask on the board as £60 sounded a lot for a 12 week old puppy but i did say perhaps treating a bulldog costs more and maybe they are more prone to illness than other breeds, surely there are some bully owners on here???

I went out to a Rottie puppy tonight and his insurance with Petplan is roughly £40 per month and they thought that was reasonable (I don't but it's not up to me).

Premiums vary according to breed and also to the level of cover (a single year is the cheapest, but if you want any possible condition covered in subsequent years you wouldn't choose that level) required. Bulldogs are one of the most expensive breeds to insure; but some breeds are uninsurable.

If I'm honest I'd say that was a very good price from Petplan if its their top policy. A few years back I called regarding insuring an 8 week old Bernese with no health issues and that was £83!!!! Hasten to add I didn't go with them and stuck with the KC at £50 who I couldn't fault!
No its not there top policy its there £7000 per year policy, think the top policy was around £80 but not sure. Are bulldogs more prone to illness then thats why the insurance is so high??

Part of the issue is that brachycephalic breeds like bulldogs can be at greater risk under anaesthetic, so any surgery they might need can be more problematical and expensive.
Knowing how much money pet plan has paid out to treat 2 bulldog sisters that i know that are only 4 years old (well over £10,000 and constantly rising) I can understand why unfortunately. I would imagine they are expensive to insure as they are prone to quite a few problems.
