My bitch is hopefully pregnant. for the last 2-3 weeks she has been hardly eating anything and intermittently vomiting. She just turns her nose up at just about anything I have tried to feed her. She is normally raw fed. I have not fed anything else but raw for about 10 years now. trying to get her eating I bought some tinned butchers meat. She is actually eating this and looking like she is enjoying a meal for the first time in weeks. I am quite happy to give her this if that is what she wants but just wanted opinions as to what the best most nutritious tinned dog food is? I have never fed it even when I didn't feed raw. Will she need a mixer with it? Currently she doesn't have any cereals in her diet.
I am hoping she will eventually start eating the raw again but need something to give her until she does.

Butchers Tripe Mix.

Have you tried raw green tripe?  Also, you could flash fry some liver and add it to the tripe meat.

The only tinned foods I'll give are Butchers Tripe or Arden Grange Partners. Both have appetising smells (to the dogs anyway), and have a high meat content. Would she eat a complete food such as Arden Grange or Fish 4 dogs? Arden Grange does a "Prestige" food which is higher protien & good to give a pregnant bitch. Have you tried boiled egg, small amount of oily fish, raw tripe?

I hope she's feeling like eating soon, such a worry.

Chappie. I've never known it fail to tempt an appetite and it's very good for dodgy tume. It's the only tinned dog food I'll have in the house.

yes that is a large part of her nornal diet but she is flatly refusing to eat it at the moment.

She does like  cooked liver but I am wary of giving her too much. I know they recommend pregnant women don't eat too much. these days because of the high vitamin A content Not sure how it might affect a pregnant dog?

I have given her butchers tripe tonight and that went down well. I was just not sure how good a food it was. I have Applaws as a standy by kibble and she will intermittently eat that if I throw kibbles at her to catch but sh soon tires of that game. I tend to steer clear of kibble with cereal in so haven't tried Arden grange. I used to use fish 4 dogs but have not bought any since they filled it full of pea flour.

Scrambled egg produced lots of funny faces  and lots of mess for the others to clear up. She spat it out all over the floor. Everyone else liked it. Maybe boiled egg will go down better. Raw egg  is ignored.

Ditto.  And mine are enjoying Applaws kibble.  I have had a poorly dog recently and tried the tinned Applaws.  Went down as if she hadn't been fed!  I would definitely consider it for a pregnant bitch.

And, after whelping, if she has a sore mouth from cleaning pups, it would suit.

The original tripe version is all meat with no cereal, filler or soy, or additives or sugars. I used it for one of mine when I realised that kibble didn't suit him and he doesn't do well with grains (including rice). Now on raw for several years, but if needed that would be the one I would buy.

I found tinned Bitchers' Tripe (we ran out of Chappie on holiday and I thought this the next best) gave my dog terrible wind and squits; not great in a rented cottage!

My girl was raw fed prior to, during and after both litters.  When her appetite was jaded we found (as with many raw feeders) that vacuum packed wet foods such as Nature Diet and/or Wainwrights (PAH own make) were readily eaten.  These are the closest to home prepared cooked foods.
Tinned foods I too like Butchers Tripe, but always the meatloaf version as the ones in jelly or gravy do cause (for mine at any rate) excess gas as JG has mentioned.  Tinned Chappie is a good standby, particularly if tums are upset.
I've listed all four above in order of preference that I've found suits all of my own dogs - but yours may respond differently.
NB none need to have any mixer added or additonal nutrients but in the later stages of gestation I add puppy mix to the dam's diet, even if happily back on raw, and continue that through to weaning.

Chappie tin food works every time.

Wainwrights and fishmongers vacuum packed trays from Pets At Home. As near to raw as you will get in convenience, great smell and v good protein. I think fishmongers uses potato with it and Wainwrights only up to 5 per cent rice so if shes not used to cereal they should suit her well. Wainwrights have several different flavours and boxes of twelve are on special offer until the end of tomorrow!

I agree with those that recommend butcher's tripe but it must be the original tripe mix and not the other flavours or chunks that they also do.

I agree, use the Butchers tripe. If this is what the most important girl in your household wants and likes  then use it but be carefull when trying all of the different ideas as you may cause an upset tummy with all of these products she is not used to !  Good Luck ;)

But this was the advise from guys and gals on here and its suited mine so ill always have an emergency tin.and as for a mixer yea,i would

just the same as us when we go off tea and coffee i suppose...being pregnant is the same for dogs no?!
