The rules say nothing used in cleaning/preparing a dog for exhibition can remain in the coat when in the ring.

I use sensitve baby wipes for spot cleaning and a wipe over.

A piece of silk used to buff the coat after grooming will add shine.

And an old-fashioned method is to use Bay Rum, which is (still) sold as a gentleman's hair preparation. Moisten your hands with it and run over the coat - it is alcohol-based and evaporates, and does give a shine, then finish off with a silk cloth.

Horses have different regulations in what is allowed to be used - I believe many horse coat preparations contain silicon, which is (or was) definitely on the KC's banned list.

I've still never seen anything on the Kennel Club Website regarding the recent report in the press that they were lifting the ban on hairspray etc? Has anyone else seen an official comment from them?
