Does anyone know why the Kennel Club requires 'Permission to Show' after a dog is neutered? Do some judges penalise neutered dogs or what?

Any alteration to a dogs anatomy needs reporting prior to showing and you may have to carry a vet letter as to why it was done

You may get away with it in Veteran but most are not keen in the general classes - many bitches get away with it if the shape and coat have not been effected but dogs are noticeable and many judges are wary.

They do not require permission to show for neutering any longer, just a form signed informing them it has been done. Permission to show involves the case being discussed etc, when it is about neutering they automatically accept it as long as you've sent in the form with the vet's signature.

Personally I can't understand why they can't have neuter classes and neuter titles as for cats, makes perfect sense. As it is now a dog missing its testicles has a fault which usually will be penalised. (The breed standards do mention male dogs should have two testicles.) A spayed bitch has no obvious fault so can go all the way.

No, all you have to do is inform the KC that the dog/bitch has been neutered. A 'permission to show' letter isn't required.

All breed standards state that male animals "should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum". Any dog (as opposed to a bitch!) lacking in this department has an obvious fault. There is no similar clause for bitches because obviously it's impossible to detect the presence or otherwise of ovaries and a uterus.

It doesn't require permission to show, you are required to inform them that it has been done.

Many judges will penalise males who do not have two normal testicles as per breed standard.
