I have a 4 year old Tibetan Terrier and he likes to chew his back feet. It doesn't seem to distress him but I am concernd that this might be coused buy some underlying problem. Can any one shed light on this?
Thanks

have you checked them to make sure there isn't anything in there that's annoying him? :)

Dogs can chew their feet for a variety of reasons, physical pain being just one, and not always in the feet themselves (anal gland impaction is just one possible cause). Another reason is stress from another source.....
Foot chewing can also be a sign of allergies.

It can also be a sign of ear mites! (The scratch their ears with their back feet and the mites then infest the feet as well)

Is it like a gentle nibble, or is he really chewing quite hard, as though he has an irritation?
I ask this as my Labrador chews his feet, the top of his paw, and inbetween his pads, but he seems to gently nibble in a way that does not bother me, as I often think it is his way of cleaning his feet!
If your dog is knawing/chewing hard and if you tell him to stop and he ignores you, then pop to your vets as the others have said, he may have an allergy or something!

It's a tt thing i,m afraid a lot of the tibetans i know chew their feet is he chewing the fur off or are his feet furnishings ok if he isn.t chewing the hair off he could just be cleaning his feet mine do it all the time with no ill effects apart from sometimes having soggy feet. You could check his claws to make sure they aren't too long that could maybe cause him to have a chomp on his feet

Take him to the vet for a check up...better safe than sorry.
