When I bred Siamese and Oriental cats, they opened their eyes much earlier than other breeds. On occasion they are born with their eyes open...I had one like this myself, and it was a bit freaky! Apparently in the old days, breeders used to PTS the open-eyed kittens believing that they would be blind, but this certainly isn't the case. The advice was to keep them in a dim light when they do open early, but in my experience (with cats) it's not always necessary as they usually close them again - not having much, if any, sight at that early age, they just keep their eyes shut until they can see.

My Willows litter had their eyes open at 7 days, the night before no signs, we normally see just a glint in the corner of their eyes the day before but nothing with this litter, next morning they were all sat looking at me....lol.

I was told when my first litter opened its eyes at 12 days it was a sign they were not getting enough food and to start weaning them, they had been gaining weight daily and appearred content so I was surprised to be told that.

I started solids and their weight gain increased a bit daily, with her next litter the pups were 18 days old yet there was nothing different done and one more pup.

Blimey, my cocker pups went from 350g - 786g in 6 days, opened their eyes day 7 can't see how they weren't getting enough food....lol.
