My 19 month old mal is currently in love. We went away for the weekend to a rally and left our two mongrels with my Mum. Since we got back, Kai has been following the bitch around with his nose attached to her rear end. He is whining constantly and it's getting wearing! I have tried to reason with him, telling him that she is 13 years old and was spayed 12 years ago, but he won't listen :rolleyes: If I split them up, the whining becomes woooooooooos!
Does anyone know why he's doing this and if there's anything I can do to make him stop?

Just be careful even though she has been spayed that she hasn't got some infection that is confusing him. On the other hand it could be his confused male hormones kicking in, put some tea tree oil on her rear end, hopefully that might put him off.

Please - DO NOT PUT NEAT TEA TREE OIL ANYWHERE NEAR A DOG - there have been many reports of dogs licking and ingesting undiluted tea tree oil and becoming paralysed......

neat tea tree oil is toxic and could also burn the dogs skin

Hi Joan, I too have a spayed 12 yr old gsd, and Storm often finds her very intresting when she has been somewhere he hasn't. :) Or when we come back from ringcraft, where theres been a bitch either just coming in season or just finishing, he comes home and checks her out.:D
It's possible he got near a couple of in-season bitches at Aviemore, and it's set him off, checking your old bitch. It will pass in a few days.

Thanks all. I have had Bracken checked out, but nothing seems to be wrong, so I think I'll go with Jane's idea of him having had a "whiff" of something interesting at Aviemore :) He's still at it though. I've done reflexology and aromatherapy, so I wouldn't use essential oils on an animal without checking and diluting first.
