Ok so we had dee scanned at 30 days post single mating. Saw her bladder full and food
But scanner said not pregnant. However today which would be 40 days post mating she has lost some
Gooey discharge. Not smelly and kind of egg white consistency.
Can scans be wrong? Also as it is said sperm can live up to 7 days after coul she have caught
Later and scan was too early.
go back in a week i would.
Also wanted to add she is acting like being in season. Very flirty with my old girl. Its all very odd!

I wait till now to scan before starting the daily worming regime etc. to ensure there is a viable pregnancy as pups on early scans can be absorbed.
I would get her rescanned as even a few days too early can show a false negative
I don't want to put a dampener on it, but I would be checking for pyometra. I can't find my book of the bitch just now as I have just had laminate flooring put down and everything is in boxes, and so can't check the symptoms.
Took her to the vet, she is not pregnant and has no sign of illness. she is a happy post season girl.
Think it was wishful thinking on my part that the scan was wrong, a well planned litter has been on the mind thought for over 12 months and to have her miss twice is a real downer.

if it helps at all, my girl missed twice n now has 8 puppies just over a week old!
Glad to hear she is fine. However, I wouldn't give up totally. Scans can be wrong and she may still have a pup or 2 (or even more ;-) )inside. Just keep an eye on her. Many people have been told that there is nothing there and the bitch has one on to have a big litter. On the other hand I have been there, no pups, such a disappointment when it doesn't happen.

hi there.. ive recently had my pug scanned and was told no pups much to my complete shock as pregancy signs were showing .. very clingy, sickness, gone off food , sleeping alot , pointy nipples near vulva.. etc etc i tried researching how reliable these scans can be as me and my husband were certain shes was having some..we used a proven stud and took her on day 11 she was mated day 12 and again on 14 from first mate she would be 34 days from second 32 but if it is true about sperm living for 5 days after mating then she would only be about 27... do u think i should re scan ??? feeling very confused as is my pug who clearly is not herself and hasnt been since mating could it be a phantom pregnancy .. i dont know wether to take what has been said as gospel or hang on a few more weeks to see if she has pups.. feel like im holding on to hope and building myself up for a fall.. its my first litter and i have had over a year of research before i decided to take the plunge the breeder is in fact of high quality and of hand should i have needed any help.. seems shes as gutted as me .. any feedback would be appreciated x

I had a bitch who had 4 phantoms and when she finally went onto have a pregnancy the signs came on much later so for future reference if the bitch shows signs too early I wouldn't get my hopes built up.
You can either wait and see or get her scanned again at day 40 if not obvious when you are due to start daily worming and puppy kibble as before that her care won't need to change.

The radiographer had offered to do a free re scan next Thursday due to the fact of second mating being on the Monday and if she had of conceived during the 5 day gap after mating then she would have been to early for scan anyway .. Been reading how ppl have accepted the word of a negative result and then gone on to have pups I'm worrying that something may go wrong and as its my first litter I wanted to get some advice from other users that have maybe been in my situation and gone on to have puppies . Can pugs hide the puppies higher up ?? Her chest appears larger and she had droop at the bottom nipples that are now pointing or is this just signs of phantom ??? I'm v confused cuz I would of put money on her being pregnant her temperament is over the top on the clingy front to the point she will not sit other than on me and when I stroke her tummy she cries a little I don't know if its just me wishful thinking I never realised how upsetting mating can be I feel for her more because she looks like she doesn't understand what's happening :( thank u for ur response x

Phantoms can be very convincing, in my case lasted 5-7 weeks, her girth would grow faster than a bitch who was actually pregnant, she was forever hungry, clingy and breast tissue and vulva extra swollen.
If you are being offered a free scan then take it. As pugs are not known for being free whelpers and good mothers you need to know when the pups are going to arrive if there are any or whether she has primary inertia and needs a c/section.
I can only remember one member with a toy breed waking up to pups,2 I think, after being told she wasn't pregnant, luckily there were no complications.

The problem with phantoms is they are not just imaginary. The body produces much of the hormone change as it would in a real pregnancy, that is why they are so convincing.
Ive had bitches show every sign including increased girth only for the hormone surge to recede and them shrink back to normal.
On the other hand Ive had a utrasonographer tell me my bitch wasn't pregnant and she went onto have six puppies.
